Any word on the next DnD figures?

Hmph.

So they've combined the two worst possible ideas into one format and delivered it unto us at an increased cost.

I'm glad the DDM people got fired.

This is a complete falsehood. The DDM people are still there designing and producing minis. They also played the minis game. The corporate direction for the line has changed, but the actual "minis people" are still there, including Peter, Shoe, Rob and the rest.

So glad you have no idea what you're talking about, the minis folks are good people.

Heh, I know you're not alone in that opinion. I've pretty much received confirmation of my theory, by the way. The timeline of the decision to alter the packaging scheme for the line necessitated the use of some older molds in order to produce 36 PC minis for the first two sets. Moving forward, the intent is to produce all new sculpts.

Then you've obviouly never seen the repaints that were in teh monthly tournament kits. Most of those were hella-sweet. There were also a number of great sculpts that were under painted that some of us took a brush too and made much cooler with a minimum of work akin to adding a couple of paint steps.

Plus, the lead time for the new series all but necessitated a few "repaints". I'd be surprised if it stays on a go-forward basis.

Yeah, I'm lukewarm to the idea, actually. I know some players who will be psyched to get an Aramil or Cleric of St. Cuthbert so easily and cheaply. I know others who range from mildly to majorly annoyed at the repaints. I don't really mind so much, but I'd kinda like to enjoy a few weeks without a major source of complaints regarding DDM ;)

Both Players Handbook Heroes, Series 1 (18 PC figures in visible packages of three) and Monster Manual: Dangerous Delves (40 monster figures in packages of 5, with one visible figure) release on May 19, 2009.

Players Handbook Heroes, Series 2 and Monster Manual: Dungeon Lords (in which the visible figure will be a huge figure) will release in August 2009.
To expand slightly on this, according to Amazon the packs for the PH Series 1 and Series 2 are as follows:

Player's Handbook Heroes Series 1:
  • Arcane Heroes 1
  • Arcane Heroes 2
  • Divine Heroes 1
  • Martial Heroes 1
  • Martial Heroes 2
  • Primal Heroes 1
  • Assortment
Player's Handbook Heroes Series 2:
  • Arcane Heroes 3
  • Divine Heroes 2
  • Divine Heroes 3
  • Martial Heroes 3
  • Martial Heroes 4
  • Primal Heroes 2
  • Assortment
Amazon disagrees with JohnnyQuest's release date for the first set, but I'll take JQ's date over Amazon's any day ;)

I have no idea what the "Assortment" packs are, but judging from Amazon's price, they may be a set of all the minis in each of those series.

repaints don't bother me. Especially if the new paint job is better.

I probably would not buy them just because of the paint if I already had the sculpt.

That's a blessing. I ended up with so many Treants, so few Bulettes.

Of course, D&D 4e minis are now effectively for a new game line, but most of them should be acceptable for my 3.5 game...

Hah, I've got a freaking army of fiendish tyrannosauruses!

ALL the minis in the various "4e" sets are easily used in a 3e game, if not the actual stats on the card. For the few monsters that did not exist in prior editions of the game, just make up new stats for 'em. I have already used elemental archons as simple elementals on my table.

I like the non-randomness and ease of availability of PC figures; that'll help players who want specific ones for their characters. The "one figure is visible" part of the monsters is cool.

But, I still strongly dislike the price tag. I'll be sticking to tokens, I suppose... don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to use miniatures, but the initial cost is just too much to have any real variety of creatures while still being able to do a combat with them (for example, I'd need more than 2-3 of each creature type, because how often do you only have 2 kobolds in an encounter? etc). Now, once I had a decent collection, I wouldn't mind the cost so much, but it looks like it'd be a good $100 spent on minis just to get a minor collection built up to give some level of flexibility.

By the way, will there be anything available as far as the poster-sized maps?
