Any word on the next DnD figures?

(unless they are really hot for skirmish, which is officially dead now anyway - unless the DDM Guild pulls a miracle).

I don't think we'll quite need a miracle ;) The Guild is officially licensed. We've got 38 Chapters representing every continent except Africa, and we haven't even launched yet. Sure, we've got our work cut out for us, but I'm encouraged.

Back on topic, since WotC first announced the repackaging of the DDM line, it's been clear that PC minis would be sold in visible packs of three, while monsters would be sold in semi-random (i.e. one visible figure) packs of five. I'm a little surprised that we may be seeing some old sculpts re-used, but not totally shocked, given the timeline of the decision.* I'll wait to judge the packaging until I see it in hand, but I agree that it looks excessive.

* From my post on Hordelings:

Given that Feywild was produced before the decision was made to re-package the line, my guess is that they needed to look to some existing molds in order to get 18 PC sculpts into the PHH set. I'd also guess that Feywild had 40 monsters that could go into the Dangerous Delves set, without the need to use existing molds. Finally, I'd guess that it's not the plan to continue re-issuing sculpts. I may be totally wrong, but that's my guess.

Then I will definitely be looking forward to the set after this, to see new player character sculpts.

This set's monsters, and the next set after this, should give us a good idea on whether their efforts to improve sculpt and paint quality will pay-off.

I'm hoping they succeed. I really want more good minis. (I always want more.:p;))

I think we'll get a good look at what increasing paint steps by 50% can accomplish with these sets. I don't expect markedly different sculpts, though, until late this year or early next year, given production lead time.

While you should be applauded for the work you are doing (for free, I might add), good luck bringing any new players. Kids who buy minis will not, in my experience, go on the interweb looking to see if there is another game associated with them. They won't go searching for the DDM Guild*. They will assume the minis are for RPG use only.

*Unless WotC features it prominently on packaging, which I doubt they will do.

Rotten Antarcticans! How dare they be better organised than us Africans? :(

Possibly easier to get hold of the minis down there than up here. I know both Wizards Books & Games and Outer Limits have been horrid in thier ability to get hold of the stock and in thier prices when they do .

Take2 has had better prices but been unrealiable at best :.-(

Phaezen

Heh. I live in rural North West Province, a long way from even a bad game store. I order all my D&D stuff (books and minis) online, and last time I checked that worked out only marginally more expensive (and a lot more reliable) than trying to buy locally.

Do you buy/collect minis Phaezen?

Hmph.

So they've combined the two worst possible ideas into one format and delivered it unto us at an increased cost.

I'm glad the DDM people got fired.

Hell yeah. Stick a bunch of fifty monsters into a cheapass plastic bag and sell it with no label and pass on the decreased cost of packaging and I'd be a happy chappy.
