Have you played these boardgames?

I own Puerto Rico and El Grande.

I've only played Puerto Rico a few times, but I have already decided that I don't like it. With no dice and no cards, theres ZERO random chance, and the order of play doesn't switch to accomodate. Therefore, the player who sits next to the player who makes the biggest mistake automatically wins.
Plus its a big set-up/clean-up game, without the pretty factor of a lot of other games.

El Grande used to be the second game of choice behind Settlers when I used to have a regular boardgame night. I've played it often enough to have some ideas, but yet not often enough to have ever seen a specific strategy have any payoff. It could be because I was always playing with the same people and we all learned the game at the same time and were evenly matched, or it could just mean that its the most balanced game I've ever played. I'm not sure.

You're certainly welcome to your opinion (as I said, I'm not a huge fan of PR myself), but you seem to be severely misjudging the game.

First, it isn't a zero-chance game, as the plantation tiles are random.

Second, having a poor player to your right doesn't seem like a great boon. It does seem slightly advantageous, but only slightly so.

The set up and cleanup time is the killer for me.

At the time I write this, these are the top 10 games on BoardGameGeek:

#1: Agricola
#2: Puerto Rico
#3: Power Grid
#4: Twilight Struggle
#5: Tigris and Euphrates
#6: El Grande
#7: Caylus
#8: Race for the Galaxy
#9: The Princes of Florence
#10: Through the Ages: A Story of Civilisation

I have played all of them except for #7 and #10. I don't have a high interest in either. I own all of them except for #7, #10, and #3. I like the rest though Agricola, Tigris and Euphrates, and Race For the Galaxy are favorites. I am really looking forward to the new expansion coming out this month!

I have played agricola, puerto rico, power grid, and race for the galaxy. I have high regard for all of them, to be honest. If I had to pick a favorite I would choose either powergrid or race for the galaxy, but PR and agricola are by no means bad. I've actually started playing PR "by mail" so to speak on http://www.pr-game.com/ and it's been fun other than the turns going slow. at first I was afraid _I_ wouldn't be able to keep up, but that has proven to be hardly the case :-P

#1: Agricola: not yet. Was supposed to get it as a birthday present, but the FLGS was out of stock.
#2: Puerto Rico: Several times. Very good game. Go for the wharf.
#3: Power Grid: nope.
#4: Twilight Struggle: nope.
#5: Tigris and Euphrates: nope.
#6: El Grande: nope.
#7: Caylus: Once or twice. I felt kind of lost. I had trouble following the flow of the game.
#8: Race for the Galaxy: Not yet. A friend and avid boardgamer has it and has a very high opinion of it.
#9: The Princes of Florence: nope.
#10: Through the Ages: A Story of Civilisation: nope.

I still haven't played any of these. The most interesting one to me is Twilight Struggle. I'd definitely play that. I might end up playing Race some day, as a friend has it. Generally, though, these aren't the droids I'm looking for.

#1: Agricola - not played, don't own
#2: Puerto Rico - not played, own
#3: Power Grid - played & owned
#4: Twilight Struggle - not played, don't own
#5: Tigris and Euphrates - played & own
#6: El Grande - not played, don't own
#7: Caylus - not played, don't own
#8: Race for the Galaxy - played & owned
#9: The Princes of Florence - not played, don't own
#10: Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization - not played, don't own

SO I own 4 and have played 3. Of the ones that I haven't played or own only Agricola & Twilight Struggle interest me.

#2: Puerto Rico - Played and own
#3: Power Grid - Played and own
#4: Twilight Struggle - Want to play
#5: Tigris and Euphrates - Want to play
#6: Dominion - Play and own
#7: El Grande - Want to play
#8: Caylus - Want to play
#9: Through the Ages: A Story of Civilisation - Played and own

So I got 6 of these 10.

Through the Ages is my newest game, and it has been a lot of fun so far.

Between me and my roommate, we own Race for the Galaxy (including the expansion) and Tigris and Euphrates. I like both games, but I like RftG a lot more; it plays faster, and more importantly, I usually win.

I'm 0-3 in T&E. At least you get to attack people in Tigris and Euphrates. Unfortunately, I've only played in two player games of it though.
