what were the most unique 3.x supplements?

Hero's Builders Guidebook - Complete waste of paper, except for the background generator in the book. I saw more amazing backgrounds come out of that book.

Second has got to be the book of erotic fantasy for "unique book" I doubt we will see the like again.

If it were not for Unearthed Arcana, I'd have abandoned 3.5 entirely---so I guess that counts.

And put me in for another vote for Hero Builder's guidebook. That was quite a lot of fun, if memory serves.

Some more (just supplements, not whole games):

  • The Immortals Handbook line
  • Occult Lore
  • Legends of Sorcery
  • Dynasties & Demagogues
  • Crime & Punishment
  • Love & War
  • Darkwalkers: The Evil Within
  • Dreamscapes
  • Miracles & Wonders
  • Fantasy Occupations
  • Book of Broken Dreams
  • Complete Control
  • E6
  • Sweet20
  • Wildwood, I think, but not sure - don't own it
  • Dragon Magazine, Paizo era

And all the others I forgot about for now. . .

Magic of Incarnum
Book of Nine Swords
Savage Species
Tome of Magic
Weapons of Legacy

Note that I'm not necessarily in love with each one of those books, but they did definitely stretch the game in new directions.

I'd agree with most of those, but didn't Savage Species continue trends well-established by works such as GAZ10 The Orcs of Thar, The Complete Book of Humanoids, Council of Wyrms, and Requiem, to name a few? It pushed the boundaries farther than most previous works, yes, but I think it was the continuation of a long-standing trend rather than a groundbreaking new approach.

My list:

- Airships
- Anger of Angels
- Beyond Countless Doorways
- Bluffside: City on the Edge
- Book of Erotic Fantasy
- Dragonstar
- Etherscope
- Iron Kingdoms
- Magical Medieval Society: Western Europe
- Mythic Races
- Redhurst: Academy of Magic
- Requiem for a God
- Savage Species
- Sorcery & Steam
- The Complete Book of Denizens
- The New Argonauts
- Unearthed Arcana
- Valus

Good call with Anger of Angels and Requiem for a God, Kngihtfall. Er, and BoEF, I guess. 'Unique', yes.

Along with the first two though, I'd also add When the Sky Falls. Same company again.

Greg-

Did you know that you could most of these books for $5.00 or less at the Studio 2 online store?

Yes. I was holding off for a couple of weeks, because my job at the college is on an eight week winter break and I was expecting an increase in hours at my other job after the holidays. However, hours at the latter have been minimal with nothing at all this past week (which sucks because I just got a raise which is now worthless until they have hours).

Even the $50 AMEX gift card, a player gave me to buy the books doesn't help, because somehow the card did not get activated properly upon purchase (and the receipt was trashed).

The only Bastion Press print books I do not own is "Into the Black" and "Lore of the Gods".

I would say Oathbound is a pretty darn unique setting too. I found it far more unique than Eberron, Midnight, and even Iron Kingdoms. Plus I like it, a lot. Its patchwork nature gave me inspiration for my current campaign world.

No mention of Ghostwalk?

Not too surprising. It's one of the sleeper hits of 3.x. Great book, great setting, but it was unfortunate to be one of the last 3.0 books to come out, after 3.5 had already been announced.

Magic of Incarnum, Tome of Battle, and Tome of Magic were also unique and interesting.

My list of unique OGL products.

FFE had a pair of unique products I grabbed on pure hope. Dungeon World, Sundered Reaches
