D&D 4E Are Long-Term Charm Effects Gone in 4E?

Is there a Forget Ritual ? Otherwise using a Charm Ritual in this way could have dire consequences for the charmer or the charmee...

Well, I would think it would be part of the ritual....

That said, the ritual approach doesn't quite work for me - well, not as presented so far.

First problem it is 24 hours, where from an RP perspective you pretty much want it continual until broken. So, they need some mechanism to renew it each day... or have it continue, and make it easier to break if it isn't renewed every so often - its fairly typical in vampire stories and the like to lure the vampire away so that the protagonists can break the enchantment.

Second is that I'm not sure the "let's sit down and cast the ritual" formula works - at least not with the victim present. Sure, I can see that happening before hand (prepairing a potion or such before hand, or enchanting an object such as a ring/necklace), then probably followed by a need to be in the physical presense of the victim for at least 10 minutes, and get them to drink the potion/put on the the ring.

Yeah, you could work it a few ways depending on the needs of the plot. It could be temporary but longer term than an encounter, so 24 hours is not bad. That might be a reasonable thing a PC might be able to use at some point. Powerful but still limited. Something like a Vampire Lord might be able to exert a stronger type that lasts a longer time and can be renewed, ala the Succubus. In terms of how the charm is 'delivered', that again can be determined by the needs of the plot. A PC might need to actually deliver a potion, have the NPC on hand during the ritual, or some other thing along those lines.. That would let you go with all the various folklorish sorts of fluff one might ever desire.
