The Closed Eye (DM: Halford, Judge: garyh)

Out of Character

OOC: Palindrome weighs about 150 pounds. (Does that sound reasonable for an average build, average size Dauntonian?)

Does a halfling girl count as difficult terrain?

*ba da dum dump CHING*

Thank you! Have a good night! Be sure and tip your waitress!

ooc: Waiting for an action from Atreus. I'd prefer not to NPC him at this particular time, but if I hear nothing by Monday, I'll do something with him. Suggestions are welcome.

ooc: wtf, I'm positive I posted that update like two days ago. Where did it go? I'm really sorry if you guys have been waiting on me. I'm absolutely positive I edited and uploaded the map (and the file times on my web server back me up), wrote the post, edited the status... Is it possible that I somehow forgot to press submit? Surely not; I'm going to choose to blame ENWorld. Yes, that's it.... Anyway, uh, update coming up very shortly...

Round 1

Woe heroically hides in the bushes.

Tander, after conferring with Woe, clambers over the fence and joins Woe in the bushes.

The two archers continue to fan out, darting nimbly across the grass. Their bowstrings flash, and two arrows bury themselves painfully in Atreus' tender flesh. (ooc: 2 hits, 21 damage total. Atreus is bloodied)

[sblock=initiative and status]

Woe 29/29, total concealment, possibly stealthed
Tander 24/24, total concealment, possibly stealthed
Archer 1 unharmed
Archer 2 unharmed
Atreus 3/24, bloodied <== You're up
Goblin 1 unharmed
Goblin 2 unharmed
Goblin 3 unharmed
Palindrome 23/23
Neera unharmed

Atreus grimaces at the pain from the arrows. He quickly and coldly rips them out of his body and lets the bloodied arrows drop the ground. Not wasting any time he suddenly runs closer to the nearest archer while loading his sling with a bullet. He then retaliates and spins around and runs after Tander and Woe to get some cover. As he gets closer he says to Tander " I am in need of your healing Talents Mr. Tander "

[sblock=Actions]
Minor Action - Draws his sling
Standard Action - Uses Deft Strike and moves to -8, AE and shoots with his sling at Archer 1 ( so that the archer 1 is 10 sq's away from him and therefore Atreus doesn't get penalty to shoot at the Archer)
Move Action - Moves to -12,AF and makes a stealth check

To Save Time: Palindrome will hold his turn to see if Neera does the footstool bit. (So you can run Neera's actions first.)

Round 1, continued

Atreus hurls a sling stone that flies wide of the archer, then hurries into the bushes as well. (ooc: 13 misses)

The goblins, unable to pick out any specific targets in the crowded bushes, circle closer, javelins poised to hurl at whoever emerges first.

Neera stares at Palindrome in shock, and then, moving woodenly, crouches next to the wall. (ooc: Palindrome may climb on as a move action, meaning he can see and attack over the wall, and has improved cover. If he does, make a balance check as part of the move action. Less than 5, he falls off. Less than 10, and he takes -2 to attack rolls from the unsteady platform. 10 or better, no penalty. Do that each round he's on her.)

Palindrome, Woe, and Tander are up.

Palindrome bequeaths a regal nod upon Neera. "Excellent work, Meatshield. Well done, my good and faithful familiar."

He steps upon her back and peers over the wall.

And sees...

A bunch of monsters and none of his teammates.

"********* gods in ********** Olympus! They've ***** killed them and ******* disintegrated the ****** ***** bodies!"

He smiles.

"That means there's no one to stop me from my original plan!"

He flings a magic missile at archer 1.

[OOC: Wand of Accuracy (+2 to hit). Magic Missile! (1d20+6=17, 2d4+4=11)

He waves and yells. "Greetings, pig *****! I will personally kill each and every one of you, make a hat from your skin, and burn your little house down!"

Cackling, he steps off the halfling's back. "Okay, Meathshield," he tells the girl, pointing a few feet down the wall, "We need to move over there."

With his shield strapped on and poised for battle, Woe prepares to make his move when Tander comes hustling into the bushes behind him.

“Oh, hey buddy,” he whispers with a grin. “The new guy stepped on a twig, I think, and the beehive started buzzing.” A new consideration suddenly occurs to Woe. “Let’s hope it’s safe to leave Neera with Mr Trigger Happy.”

Shortly later, cries of pain are heard and Atreus comes shuffling into cover on the other side. The merc looks him up and down, raising an eyebrow.

“So good of you to join us,” he whispers without the slightest trace of sarcasm.“No bleeding on the rug. You kids play nice while I’m taking a little stroll.”

Woe creeps past and into position at the perimeter of what will still keep him reasonably out of sight. Noticing the opposition to keep their distance while Palindrome takes pot shots at them, Woe patiently keeps ready with a foot braced against a stub behind him until the timing is right to rush into the fray.

[sblock=Actions]Woe creeps through Atreus’ square and into AE-11, thus keeping within the square closest to our foes that still provide him total concealment. He readies to charge the first enemy to come within range – that is, any foe moving south of X and west of -4.[/sblock]

As Woe crouches down in the bushes, a creeping sensation slowly slides in as his subconscious mind registers this scenario to be altogether reminiscent of a crucial memory. He doesn’t see the déjà vu coming before it’s far too late.

These are not the shrubs of a Daunton mansion – this is the wild forestation of Dylanthas. He’s no longer lying in wait to ambush elves and their lackeys – no, the elves are hunting him to finish the massacre. Corex is dead, Byruck is dead, and Jaera is slowly bleeding out with a punctured lung and all her limbs penetrated of arrows. She’s so close Woe might be able to reach her in time, if only the mutilated corpses of settlers weren’t piled to form a blockade around the burning village…

The moment passes and Woe comes back to awareness of the present. He looks down to find his left hand clenched painfully around the shield grip in a new shaking fit, almost turning into a spasm. Surprised and confused, he blinks repeatedly and focuses on the task at hand.
