the PDF discussion getting more mainstream now

Reg pays passing homage to the gaming geek niche on occasion, I'm not that surprised to see this turn up on there, especially because of the anti-piracy angle, which is a favourite editorial target of theirs.

Amusingly let's look at how in touch a vocal member of the Reg's community is with us, shall we? From the "hissy fit" post:

who the hell plays (A)D&D any more anyway?

:)

Yeah, I didn't bother with the comments anyway, and went to the article. I've seen enough Internet peanut galleries at this point that I know just how ignorant and worthless such comments are.

it's Wizards' priority now to "take care of all the crazy action going out there" until it finds a safer way to distribute digital copies.

So it sounds like this may be a temporary situation, instead of the end of the world some people have been making it out to be.

It's on slashdot.org too.

Despite the ink still being fresh on these lawsuits, I'd say the jury is already in: this is about the worst PR move WotC could have made, and is going to color people's opinions of the company for years to come.

I hope they enjoy the record numbers they're getting on PHB2. The way they are treating their fans today, I don't think they'll get so lucky again.

I'll be impressed when it appears on the front pages of the NY Times or some such ;)

Please, we're talking about NEWS. Large Press American Journalism is a contradiction in terms. They'd give it front page in a moment to avoid publicizing a real issue.

Gosh, remember the good old days when all D&D had to worry about was accusations of being satanic?

At least that was good PR!

Yeah, I remember it fondly, when my D&D books and some my old Transformer figures, were added to the fireplace one day while I was out at a friends house.

And I called home and heard. "Your books have met the Fire God."

Yeah, I'm still salty about that.

Where as my friend, his books and actually his entire stash of D&D materials all met the water god, as all his books and dice were thrown into the bay.

Didn't stop either of us from playing. But it would of been nice to have had pdf's of them back then. hehe..

Same here. Tweets, blogs and tech sites really seem little more than fan wank. There's always some complaints over stuff WotC does. A more mainstream report on bad publicity would be impressive (and would actually concern WotC).
