I am trying to track the influence of edition bias on people's perception of WOTC's sales of 4e.

Of course this is an online poll, so it's not reliable. But, I am curious about the answers anyway.

I don't care for 4E though I would play if it were the only game in town. And I don't have any kind of sense of how well the game is selling. So ... "other".

I've bought & played it. Interesting system. Only hard data I have is that local chain book stores stopped carrying after poor sales of core books last year. Sales worldwide could be good or bad, no way to know without hard numbers from WotC.

Just as anecdotal as the next, but all the chain book store (Borders and Barnes and Nobles) in my area seem to have it in stock (and it seems to be moving.)

The two game stores I ever frequent are a mixed bag.

The one in Berkeley seems to be selling 4e, and the in store game my friend is in has moved to 4e.

The other one in SF seems to be reccomending people not buy or play 4e. (Or at least the sales guy on shift the last time I was in there was.)

Not to cut the term too fine, that really only shows a difference in store management and salesmanship, and not a direct proof of product sales. Specifically, the former seems to be* a 4E/new-gamer supporter, and the latter seems to be a 3E/grognard supporter.

*"Seems to be" being the term used to mark that this is the most accurate interpretation based on the information at hand. Further information will naturally upset this conclusion.

I'm a fan- but based on the business actions I've seen out of WOTC in the past 6 or 8 months, It's *my belief* it's not doing "well enough". Just alot of 1990s TSR type nonsense going on that gives me the impression of worry/desparation. This is DEF not the gamer friendly " We're bad, we're nationwiiiideeee" WOTC of 1998- 2002 or so.

That said, I'm not really worried or care a whole lot (other than for good folks losing their jobs if it came to such a thing).

I don't like 4e much and I have no idea how well it's selling overall. I can tell you it's selling weakly among the gamers I play with compared to 3e, at about half the rate 3e sold I'd estimate. I apparently know too many others who don't much like it either.

So: lemon curry

A fan, I voted other. Based on the wsj best seller list I figure its doing well, but I really don't know.

I think it's fairly obvious that those who feel 4e is doing poorly, are those who *hope* it is doing poorly.
