Better? That's really subjective as both are excellent products.

If you're looking to run in 4E, Midnight is presently better, simply because it is much easier to mimic the required mechanics as Dark Sun would require the psionics rules (unless you wanted to make your own).

Bad news for both: the PDFs for both product lines are not legally available anymore. However, you're in Singapore. Someone at PI who works there (counter staff? owner?) told me he had the full set of products a couple of years ago. As do I, but I keep my books in Oz while I live mainly in Singapore.

I would love to see 4E treatments of both worlds.

Yes.

Really, it depends on style preference. Both are excellent settings that break out of the mold. Midnight is a little darker, I think, but hews more closely to traditional fantasy in trappings. Dark Sun is kinda out there, but while the stage dress is wild, the tone is more old-school D&D IMO.

Yup, neither is better, and both are fun.

I've played Dark Sun and am currently running Midnight, so if you have a specific question about which best fits your group or campaign, I'd be happy to help you.

Apart from that, I think of:

Dark Sun as "postapocalyptic Mad Max-sih"

and

Midnight as "The world hasn't ended, but it sucks in a "I'm a poor character in a Charles Dickens novel-sorta way."

Which is better chocolate or beer?
Chocolate beer.

IMHO I'm not convinced 4E would be able to mimic the gritty realism of Midnight as well as 3E could but that's an old debate.

But you could see this well made point in a slightly different light - do you prefer you fantasy to have psionics or not? If you do Dark Sun is the way to go. If you don't then Midnight is the one!

As others have pointed out on any other criteria it's really hard to compare as they are both good and very different setting.
