Paranoia xp service pack 1 question

I like Classic-style paranoia... The straight variety just doesn't really do it for me. I like the wild goose chases, the catch-22's, and the ever-present threat of death.

I can see the appeal of Straight Paranoia - after all, I think it'd be the only conceivable way to run a campaign - but I prefer Paranoia for brief, humorous one-shots.

Just to add a little more confusion for the OP, the Paranioa core rulebook is actually being revised and re-released in August 2009 for the 25th Anniversary of Paranoia. See this link for more details.

Service Pack 1 should still be perfectly fine for running a game though. I know that it would be frustrating to buy a game only to find out that 2 months later a new revised edition has been released.

You B@#$@%D!! The computer rerouted me and forced me to buy your propaganda!

Next clone!

Edit: Actually it rerouted me to that communist Paizo site and forced me to buy!

I know, the whole line is being retired for the next generation and all the pdfs are currently on sale for 25% off until June 30 here.

They are normally extremely pricey even as pdfs so I wouldn't otherwise get them. Even at 25% off I've been deterred from buying a bunch. So far I nabbed the Traitor's Manual because I couldn't resist looking up stuff like the Sierra Club as a traitorous secret society and the d20 table for the truth behind the Illuminati.

I'm being tempted by the core book for the story on Alpha Complex, Extreme Paranoia for the stuff on living in the different colors, Criminal Histories for the character background Pachinko, the big book of bots for the bots, and the flashbacks for the big collection of old adventures. Alpha Nights 2 where the commies do take over looks hilarious as well.

With the new edition I'm not sure if these will be back or not (excepting the core book).

Flashbacks has some of the greatest published adventures for Paranoia. I should probably pick up Flashback 2 as well. I'm hoping there are some deals at Origins for this stuff. When I was running the game a lot at cons Criminal Histories and the Screen were the two items I used the most.

I have Flashbacks 1 & 2. Flashbacks 1 is pretty amazing - it's hardcover, with a lot of great adventures inside.

Flashbacks 2 is considerably thinner, softcover, and not quite as amazingly well-done. I get the feeling it was an afterthought.

I like the idea of Paranoia but when I bought the XP book and started ready it, it seems so overly complicated to me. I couldn't really make much sense out of it and gave up. Ah well.

I'd like to play some day but clearly I won't be running the game.
