[3.5] Answering the Call

"Har!" laughs Orinar. "Good to see that the dwarf isn't living up to his own opinion of himself." The half-giant claps Mitch on the shoulder, and gives the soldier a wide smile. "We shall seek out the exchequer, and once we have some gold in hand we shall feast at the tavern! Feel free to join us for a drink later, Mitch. We'll tell you all about the hobgoblins!"

Mitch actually smiles, the first time the adventurers have seen him look anything but dour. "I might just do that, Orinar, once my shift is over and my relief arrives, but I'm here in the gatehouse for several more hours still."

Lars frowns for a moment, and asks Mitch "Sir, do you happen to know if the dwarf's party, or anyone else, recently came back into Borderland Keep with a mithral short sword or dagger? I have it on decent authority that it is likely stolen, and not from goblinoid filth."

Mitch shakes his head. "Haven't seen anything like that, but we don't generally inspect people coming into the keep. Stolen from whom? Is this something that needs to be reported to the Curate?"

[sblock=OOC Stuff]
OOC: by my math: 75 x 15 = 1125 /4 = 281,25...let's say 280 for each of us. Mark, how big is the city, is there a place to buy magical equipment, scrolls and/or potions?

Borderland Keep is not a big community, and it's primarily military-oriented. It has a reasonable supply of mundane equipment, especially weapons and armor. Anything in the PhB is available, although large quantities or individual items worth more than 350 gp will likely take time to either order or to craft.

Magical equipment is less available. The merchants of the outer bailey, attracted by the upswing in adventuring sorts, can generally provide any DMG magic item worth 50 gp or less. Items up to 150 gp might be available, but, again, will likely take time to order or to craft.

Rumor has it that Curate Anselm, the ranking cleric of Hieroneous, can provide access to more than is generally available. Likewise, the off-limits inner bailey is said to contain a choicer selection.

OOC2: Also, consider that Menno will dutifuly even enthusiasticaly (but cautiosly ask around about mithral 'dagger') ... if you think that there is not much RPing to be done, please roll Gather Info and describe the effect...

Stay tuned. The Mystery of the Mithral "Dagger" will unfold in due time. :)

"Nah," Lars responds, "just something I promised to retrieve. I'll find it myself. See you later, sir." He heads into Borderland Keep and tells the others "Let's collect our reward now so we can spend a little on supplies and good times." That said, he goes to turn in the hobgoblin hands he collected.

ooc: What time is it, IC?

ooc: What time is it, IC?

OOC: It's about lunch-time, coincidentally about the same time Tiax is being rebuffed by Korax in the Pierced Goblin.

The exchequer is located in a stout square building against the south wall across the street from a provisioner and a trader.

The exchequer is a stout, older man named Samvis. Under the watchful eyes of four soldiers, he welcomes the party, counts their bounty, and pays them what is due.

"A fine showing, gentlemen," Samvis says. "Fine, indeed. Those monsters may have drawn first blood, but they'll not win the war, eh?"

Orinar nods and smiles, and gives a short laugh. "A good showing, indeed. And yes, we'll win the war, through strong arm and valiant deed!"

"And magic. Don't forget the magic."
Says Menno quietly.

Once the group moves out:
"Now, lets head back to our inn and buy everyone a round. After launch we go shopping and information gathering."

"And magic, of course," agrees Orinar, giving Menno a beefy slap on the shoulder. "Now, I'm thinking a massive mug of thick stout and a crispy, juicy capon is just what is needed! To the tavern!"

"Aye, food and drink next, and a good rest after walking all this way. Then we can purchase some new equipment and provisions," Lars replies with a smile. He leads the others back to the inn/tavern for a meal and a round of drinks.

"Ale and food!" calls Orinar, stepping through the door and into the tavern. "We have thirst and hunger that must be quenched!"

Tiax is slightly startled as the half-giant announces his needs. Maybe these people will be better than dat Korax fellow. He thinks to himself as he takes a bite of his bread. Tiax waits until they are seated before wiping a few crumbs from his face and approaching. With the same low bow as he gave Korax, he announces, "Escuse me sirs, me names Tiax, a simple gnome 'o has heard the adventurers call, may I sit wit ye?"
