LEB Discussion Thread '09

It would be weird if we ended up with a glut of leaders. Not too surprising, since Eberron's iconic class is a leader, but amusing nonetheless.

Of course, six is a terrible sample size.

Yeah, six is not a big sample. Personally, I choosed a leader as I'm already playing a defender and a controller in L4W. My second LEB character will be a striker (probably an elven avenger assassin-like of house Thuranni).

I think things will equilibrate a bit when we will reach a more larger number of character.

How do gnomes fit into Eberron? What about Halflings?

I was thinking of making a short wizard...
First things first:

Gnomes are not pranskter tinkerers!

Phew. Had to get that off my chest.

I love the gnomes of Eberron (and generally dislike their interpretations elsewhere). They are friendly but crafty. These are the people that willingly have a secret network of spies throughout the country to monitor it—because that way they are safe. The gnomes of Eberron are scary.

Great info on them from Keith Baker: Gnomes of Zilargo Pt 1 and Part 2

Civilized halflings are pretty integrated into their native cultures. They have some similarities with PH halflings. The halflings of the plains are more nomadic and "barbaric/savage". From the Eberron FAQ:
Halflings are adventurous wanderers with a nomadic heritage. Some halflings remain true to their ancestral roots, living as hunter-gatherers on the Talenta plains. These halflings have managed to tame the Talenta region's indigenous dinosaurs. Many other halflings are fully civilized, having lived for generations in the cities and towns of Eberron. These halflings work as healers, innkeepers, and thieves, making themselves a part of the local culture in nearly every society.

Hope that helps.

Neither the items section or the features section of the sample character sheet work properly. Having to be able to write code to fill out a character sheet is a bit much don't you think? I failed programming just last semester :-S I've been messing with this sheet for 2 days now and it still doesn't work.

So, it sounds like you wouldn't appreciate my character, Zook "Stumbleduck" Pniffer, gnomish prankster necromancer. He thinks it's great fun to raise the dead during funerals, and he makes cuckoo clocks in his spare time, only instead of birds, they're zombies, and the door they come out of is a little tombstone.

Man, I sort of want to play that character now. Or at least have a clock like that.

In case you're curious, the name was the silliest combination of gnome first, last, and nicknames that I could come up with from the 3.x PHB for my short-lived gnomish cleric. That's right, that's a WotC sanctioned name right there. Although I may be spelling the last name wrong.

God, I really want that clock...

I know I didn't have issues with that section, nor did a few other people.

I know the wiki editing can be a bit tricky at first, but its definitely valuable to have everything in one place.

Just double check all the work/coding in that section against the sample character.

Yeah I am still noodling around with mine but things seem to be working out. Although since we're on the topic it would be nice if there was a bit more formatting in the powers.

I would do it myself except I'm not really sure exactly how to do so. I figure out how to fill the templates out but modifying/editing them is outside my geek expertise. Is there anyone here maybe who has such a skillset? I only mention it because sometimes it's hard to read and it would be nice to have something a little more orderly like the L4W one.

As r1 says, its a big help to have them in a clean format. If anyone wants to PM me particular issues, I can try to make the documentation clearer.

As for your particular character, I can't say what the problem is as you've erased them. The main thing to note is you start the items with an Item line and then list each item separately similar to how you did powers. Just add it after you last power:
Code:
Items={{LEB:CS:PCStatBlockItem
    |Item Name=Sunblade Longsword +1
    |Item Description=''Critical:'' +1d6. ''Property:'' Does stuff. ''Power (At-will ✦ Radiant):'' Free Action. Does more stuff}}
{{LEB:CS:PCStatBlockItem
    |Item Name=Hat of Coolness
    |Item Description=Makes you cool.}}
Features work the same way (starting with "Features=").

Yes, if there was a form fillout for the Wiki, we'd all be happier. I've asked the admins about it but they have bigger fish to fry.

My wife loves prankster tinkerer gnomes. And they're fine... in other settings. I don't care for them, but they're cannon in Dragonlance and those in FR had some similarity.

But Eberron gnomes ain't that.

They're cheerful. Helpful even. And good with magic. But underneath, they are deadly serious. Even when Good.

I chose against more stringent formating for two reasons:
- I wanted something a bit more concise, like the MM statblocks
- Power formats are not consistent and keep on changing.

As an example, there are several powers that have multiple Effects (e.g., Effect: You may shift one square. Attack: Do something. Effect: You explode). Similarly, adding summoning powers requires different formatting to add their multiple actions. The L4W sheet doesn't have these and it would be/will be a bear add (you cannot have multiple Effects on the L4W sheet nor will it handle summoning). And, each time WotC adds some new wrinkle, you'd need to change it. So, you have two choices:
- Try to anticipate every possible permutation/combination of Effect, Hit, Miss, etc. lines
- Just let the user format it.
I chose option 2, as humans are much better at this thing and it requires less maintenance.
