[Wed] Original D&D (1974 edition)

Tav_Behemoth

First Post
I'd like to get a group together to roll up some fighting men, magic-users, and clerics and set out on some fantastic adventures playable with pencil and paper! I'm thinking about running Paul Jaquay's classic adventure Night of the Walking Wet, for mid- to high-level PCs, but if folks know that one I'll pull something else from Dungeoneer magazine (or something even more obscure).

Timing will be Wednesday afternoon/evening, customized for what works for everyone. I get into Indy at 2 pm, and my roommate arrives at 10 pm and will be eager to join in if we're still playing.

You're welcome to bring an existing PC (even one from another edition), but you don't need to - nothing is required except imagination (pencil, paper, and dice encouraged).

May be able to join in later in the evening, Tav, as I've got a 1E game going in the afternoon. If you don't mind a crowd, maybe joining already in progress would work? I believe your cell# is still in my phone, too. You'll have to let me know where you wind up if that's all good. :)

A crowd is good - my 0E game in NYC often has a dozen players - and other folks (my roommate) will be dropping in later as well, so that's all good, Mark.

Sounds like fun.

I'm running the game Mark's in; if it winds up reasonably early (either via them finishing or a TPK) maybe we'll all stop by. :) I might anyway, even if only to kibbutz if not play.

What sort of character level are you thinking of?

That'd be great, Lanefan! I was just thinking about how to determine starting level. Rolling some number of d6 x 100 or 500 appeals to me because I like random chargen, I dig the way old-school parties often included PCs of different level, and I think it'd be just as interesting & valid in OD&D to choose your class depending on what level the number of XP you rolled would get you as it would to do so based on the ability scores you rolled. I'll have to look over the adventure & the XP charts to figure out the specific equation.

What level is your AD&D game? Awesome as random chargen can be, it might also be fun to bring that party right over if the levels are close enough, and if folks don't mind being fast and loose about how their later-edition character abilities are interpreted.

Raw 1st, probably...a few of the PCs might be 2nd but not many.

Perhaps, but if you're looking for mid-high level this crew will need some *serious* beefing up.

The character I was thinking of lobbing in would be 10th level, modified 1e (but malleable to whatever edition; he's a basic enough Fighter-type). His name is Lanefan... :)

I've decided on a start time - 6:30 pm Wednesday evening - and place, at the Ram. Reveal, it'd be great if you could update the meta-thread accordingly! It's possible we'll eventually move on from the Ram, so if you're interested in playing but haven't gotten an email from me, send me a PM and I'll send you my contact info to help you find us in case you arrive late.

I also decided to go with a lower-level adventure, Jaquay's "Borshak's Lair". PCs should be around third level; as always, you're welcome to bring your own (they can be leveled up or down as necessary) or roll your own.

i prefer to roll my own. :D

um... i hope to be in around 5pm on Wednesday. i can't be sure i will make it your way but hopefully
