i wanted it to be Dark Sun, but i never expected that it would actually be it (figuring Dragonlance based on the anniversary and books and stuff).

Having said that, I noticed the upcoming releases only mention a Campaign setting rather than a players handbook. I wonder if it simply hasn't been announced or if they won't really have any players guide since all the options would have already been presented, just a matter of the camapign setting to put the 'spin' on flavor and history ?

I'm most intrigued by the Castel Ravenloft and D&D Heroscape releases for next year...

I always thought WOTC didn't "expand the brand" so to speak, as much as they could when they first got D&D.

A Castle Ravenloft boardgame looks perfect for my family game night.

Who knows?

Maybe tomorrow they'll make a surprise announcement at 12 noon saturday, that they'll be doing a second setting for next year, such as Spelljammer or Planescape (or PlaneJammer).

They caught me by surprise with this one. I really wanted Dark Sun but fell for all the Dragonlance "clues." Apparently I didn't give WotC enough credit. Anyway, I am happy to be wrong. I think this is a great move; rebooted box-set Dark Sun will make lots of folks happy and maybe even get some of them to try out 4e.

I got a prediction right for once. Yay!
Ditto :P
And I am very pleased about their decision. Since DMG2 will have rules for characters not relying on items and PHB3 will have psionics a lot of the required groundwork will already have been covered until the setting books are released.

I hope Scott Rouse or another WotC employee will spill the beans on what the clues were that they said would be on DDI.

Besides the "it has an 'a' in the name" clue, of course. That one's kinda self-evident. :)

I know that a lot people thought that titling the last Ampersand the "Hot, Hot Days of Summer" was a big clue.

Dark Sun is cool and all, but I really want something like this:

Well, the first boxed set was gorgeous, THAT Forgotten Realms is sweet :)
it went to the crapper after that: "Elminsterized" to death, ugh!!!
It can't be "forgotten" if everything is mapped, detailed, filed, stamped, briefed, debriefed and numbered!!
I AM NOT A NUMBER! I AM THE FORGOTTEN REALMS!!" :p

I don't mind cities being detailed, I resent the Realms going form wild and mysterious to humdrum and over populated :/ Original was a "Points of Light" setting.

Anyway....RavenDarkJammer ;)

I'd really buy this if came out (with about 5 other people).

You are correct. I was so inspired by the sleepy town of Shadowndale with its wizard that nobody can ever find. And the original Heroes of Myth Drannor sounded neat. The history of FR has always been its strong suit.

The novels messed up the world, IMHO. It went from subtle heroes and heroines to overpowered, oversex superheroes.
