The novels messed up the world, IMHO. It went from subtle heroes and heroines to overpowered, oversex superheroes.

Novels do that. The only thing that worries me about the Dark Sun 4E announcement is the statement that they'll be releasing new novels for the setting.

I think they will be more careful, I know the novel department works closer with the R&D/Design guys now. I'd say they will explore the setting through the novels rather than advance the timeline.

Is it too late for me to lay some money down on Dark Sun?

It seemed like Dark Sun was the runaway favorite to win even the day before we knew, so I can't imagine I'll get better than 2:1 payout anyway. Nuts.
