The beating heart of a recently fallen angel

I want to thank you all for your suggestions. I had them hooked until the last possible moment and then they changed their mind and chose to take the combat with Vampiric Black Dragon they were striking a deal with regarding the Draconic Prophecy and instead find the information elsewhere, if possible.

:(

I rarely misjudge my players after DMing with them for almost 20 years, and I really thought they were going to take the bait.

Maybe some other time.

Cheers

The PCs are evil I take it?

Here's a way for an evil person to trick an angel.
1) Find an evil woman. (Try the dregs of a major city.) perhaps even an evil female pc. Impregnate her. (use your imagination how).

2)Have her attack the angel. All the while proving that she is evil, (Spouting abyssal curses at him; wielding baby-head flails; the idea is that the angel should have no doubt she is evil.

3)The angel kills her.

4)Unbeknown to the Angel he killed her unborn child (an innocent).

At the very least he would lose grace until he atoned, during which time they could fulfill thier dark purpose.

I was going to suggest that you look at In Nomine by Steve Jackson games for inspiration, but I guess that isn't necessary now.

Fetucide suggestion

One should check on the beliefs of the angel's lord before attempting this; I doubt it would work if the deity in question did not believe that unborn children had intrinsic value, or that a soul is imbued at birth and killing a fetus is not actually murdering an innocent or some such.

While it's no longer relevant -- technically speaking, a rakshasa probably counts as a fallen angel.

Interesting thought. And it might be relevant after all. I was kinda sad that they missed the opportunity for some excellent out of box thinking with that challenge, so when they later the same night decided to find out why the hell the dragon wanted the still beating heart of a recently fallen angel, they discovered that it was like a primer - a sort of epic tier special components for very powerful and ancient rituals.

So, since they are currently looking for a ritual that will allow them to enter the memories of a god, I am thinking we might get some good use of all the ideas you have given.

So keep it coming, if you have more.

The next question of course might be: How would they keep the heart "beating"? My guess is they would need to bring the angel in alive. (and quickly too, otherwise he might have time to "repent"

also, might an evil Deva PC be considered a "Fallen Angel"?

Maybe the fallen angle is a go with the evil project.

Maybe it was all the angle's idea in the first place.

Maybe it's wheels within wheels and it's actually a way for the angles to find those who could fell one of their own and neutralize them.

And the PCs are obtuse enough to step right in it!
