What happens if we don't like it?

I have a favorite edition. There is one edition I'd rather not DM again.

But there hasn't yet been an edition of D&D I can't enjoy. I'll be very impressed if they manage to make 4e the first D&D I refuse to play.

Even when I'm running my favorite edition, there's stuff to steal & be inspired by among all the rest.

I like the look of the 4e design team, and I am certain the product will be considered a success. However, I do not like the sound of some of the changes. So my question is this: what if we don't like it? I don't mind holdouts, I mean, what if 4e is not considered a critical success and does not fully supplant 3.5 in popularity? What if 4e is the Champions: The New Millenium of D&D?

What then?

You'll have tons of opportunity to purchase material based on the OGL and d20 licenses :)

I'm sure that there will be a goo dnumber of publishers that will fill the 3rd Edition niche.

Now...haivng played the new Star Wars Saga Edition, I highly doubt that I will dislike 4th Edition D&D. A faster, more streamlined system makes for a better game experience at least for me.

Funny to see how some of the 4E-detractors in this thread are now 4E DMs, or how some people who were positive turned out to be offended. Even more interesting are the predictions of 3.5 support and how it turned out. Going back a few years can be fun!

*kicks a dead horse*

So many of my friends IRL and online have "converted" after being stubbornly against 4e for many months when it was published.

My opinion hasnt changed. Pretty much everything that they have done in 4e is pretty much the opposite of the way I would have done it.

But I DM it. One thing that they really nailed was how to make the game easier on the DM. As in less than 10% the effort for better adventures.

But to answer the OP: TURN UNDEAD YOU FOUL THREAD ZOMBIE!!!.....wait, I mean, as a product, they are still a bit off the mark, and I am pretty close to the end of what I am going to buy. For 3e there were two of us who bought all the products, and nearly everyone else the core 3. For 4e, only 1 buys all, one buys some, and not even everyone bought the PHB1.

Did anyone buy the DI?
