Totemic Spear & Totemic Warclub

So... I've been thinking.

Totemic Warclub allows you to manifest "Melee Spirit 1" attacks from your own square as well as the spirits.

Totemic Spear makes all "Melee Spirit 1" attacks reach an additional square.

If my character has both (say one javelin and one mace), would I then effectively have Reach 2 and be able to use my Spirit powers in Melee...

Is this correct?

Ah, but the important thing here is that I am not attacking WITH the weapons. And you can wield two implements (there is a FAQ somewhere with that answer) and gain the properties of both, so with two one-handed weapons (say Javelin and Mace) I should be set to use this combo.

The only "catch" I can perceive is that Totemic Spear specifically calls out "Within 2 squares of your Spirit Companion" instead of increasing the reach in more numerical terms.

If, in fact, that is what those items do, then you could do that.

However, that is NOT what those items do.

Totemic Warclub allows Melee spirit attacks to use your square as the origin. That does allow it to operate as you describe, however, so the difference here is moot.

HOWEVER

Totemic Spear does NOT work as you describe, at all.

'Property: You can target any enemy within 2 squares of your spirit companion with attacks that have the range of "Melee spirit".'

This item has nothing to do with reach at all; if your power had Melee spirit 5, it would not be Melee spirit 6 with this property.

But, they do have -one- interesting interaction; the Warclub allows you to be the origin square, which would allow you to attack, with Melee spirit powers, creatures that are two squares away from your spirit. Normally this doesn't do much, but if there's cover between your spirit and the target, but not between you and the target, you can use the combination to attack the target as tho it had no cover.

Not quite the combo I was looking for there in that case. Either way, a Warclub will atleast give me a passable ability to make good Melee attacks if I for some reason would need that.

Unfortunately I think the OA powers specifically says "When a creature leaves a space adjacent to your Spirit Companion without shifting" - so nothing new there.
