Yah, keen it for 17-20 crit for 1d8+Str+Magic+ (most likly power attack) x4 doesn't overpowerful at all. :p

With Keen the threat range would be 19-20.

Also there are several other x4 weapons, the x4 multiplier being the only real advantage of the Mercurial weapons. Just from the PHB Light Pick, Heavy Pick and Gnome Hooked Hammer are x4. The Scythe does 2d4/x4 which is almost as good as the Mercurial Greatsword which is heavier and costs over 33 times as much.

While the mercurial weapons might be good if you have the gold I do not think they are anywhere near as good as some people seem to be suggesting.

The original mercurial swords (from Sword & Fist, IIRC) got nerfed via errata & A&EG.

That reminds me of some of S&F's other weapons, like the bladed gauntlet, and its original 17-20 threat range. In 3.0, you could get keen and Improved Critical to get that to 9-20. Mmm, cheese!

Not certain, but keen and improved critical don't stack? I don't know, then again it may have been legal in 3.0...or maybe I'm completely out to lunch.
