D&D 4E XPH Races in 4e?

This is just pure theorizing on my part--I don't know anything official--but when it comes to the elan, I think 4E has better tools to represent them than a brand new race. Given that they were a "transformed" race, I think a power theme would be a better way to represent them.

One could even, going that route, open them up to more than just transformed humans, if you wanted.

That's kind of a cool idea for getting the Elan in as a race. It could even be a psionic paragon path and/or epic destiny (which might be quite interesting) to slowly transform into an Elan.

Nice idea

I like the two giths and the Elans quite a bit as psionic races, but am not too enthused about the rest of them .

I am glad PHBIII is not full of only psionic races though, to give a wider variety.

Even in 3rd ed it seemed like the Kalashtar were the Elan 2.0. They were another psionic race that was made by a human fusing with a creepy psionic aberration thingy. eberron could have made the Elan into a core race for the setting, but instead chose to make a new, nearly identical race.

So I'd just use Kalashtar for Elans. And Maenads, for good measure.

I think what strikes me is that elan, kalashtar, maenad, and xeph all kind of inhabit the same "real estate" in the game. The elan and kalashtar are particularly close. All of them are near-human races.

This reminds me of the goliath and half-giant. In the new Dark Sun, half-giants will be goliaths since they occupy the same territory. I'm assuming the designers have done the same here.

The thing I loved the most about the elan is that they could have been any race, not just humans, who traded their power and memories for eternal life and psionics. That made them rife with plot hooks.

This thread has convinced me to reintroduce them to my world using the kalashtar for stats.
