As the trio is sitting around talking, the door to the tavern opens and an elf steps into the room, he wears leather clothing and his body is lean and sinewy. The elf looks at you sitting around and walks over confidently.

"Hello, I was told this was a place I could find those looking for work? I am Luthan, my tribe needs help and I hope you can aid us. Would you be interested in helping slay a mighty beast for us?" he asks, sitting next to you.

Ryda smiles as the elf introduces himself as a prospective employer. I am interested, she replies, but I would like to know a bit more about your tribe and this beast before I sign up. Where are you from, and what has happened to your hunter’s? What manner of beast is this that we would be dealing with, and what has it done?

The elf smiles at you as you speak, "Of course, my tribe is a small group of elves that lives in the King's Forest, we stay in the interior away from the Brelish patrols. We do our best to remain unseen and forage for food and shelter. We are known as the Graythickets, named for our particular hunting area, a sacred area that we stay. Recently, an owlbear, a ferocious creature, came upon our area, ambushing some of our best hunters while they stalked dinner. It has driven out all manner of game from our home and we have failed to drive it away ourselves. I have traveled beyond the forest in my younger days and remembered that in the city here there are ones looking to help others. I have asked three other groups for help, but none of them could slay the beast. The creature must be slain to return balance to the forest. Please..." he asks wearily. As you are with him longer you notice that there are dark circles under his eyes and his skin is pale, even for an elf. His equipment, including a longbow, and clothing, appear ill-cared for.

The elf seems quite desperate for aid[/sblock]

Just was looking at Ryda's sheet and your will math section is a little off. The final value's correct, but you have only a +1 bonus from Wis, should be +2, and you have +1 racial, but half-orcs get no racial bonus to will [/sblock]

"Good day, sickly elf Luthan. We are here seeking employment. What is the compensation for such a task?"

"Uh, well our tribe has little of value, but I know that at least one of the other groups that went had a bit of gold with them and I think one even had a really nice pocket watch that'd sure to be worth something?" he replies sheepishly

The elf seems to be telling the truth as well about their poor fortune[/sblock]

The worn clothing and gear synch up with the elf's tale of poverty[/sblock]

Unit 16's face shows something between confusion and disappointment. He looks toward Ryda, waiting to see what her reaction will be.

[sblock=ooc]I'm in I'm in! :) 16 just isn't really motivated by treasure (or lack thereof), or frankly by a bunch of elves gettin' whomped. This mission seems more like a "go assassinate a creature" than a "protect ppl in trouble" so far to him. (Trying to play 'unaligned' as best I can...)[/sblock]

The half-orc nods as Luthan tells his tale, frowning at the appropriate times. Then I shall test my skill as a hunter on this owlbear. I accept your request for aide good elf. As Unit 16 brings up the talk of payment, her cheek’s darken, Fool girl, how are you supposed to make any money if you rush off and accept something before payments been discussed. Ahh well, best make the most of it, perhaps you can pawn off the gear of those weaker hunters for a meal or two.

Sighing, she downs the last bit of her stew while she waits for Unit 16 and Minkahar to respond, as her lot has been cast.

Unit 16 seems even more confused and slightly surprised by Ryda's response. He turns to the elf and says, "You speak of protecting the natural order, but it seems like the natural order of things is for an owlbear to drive off elves. Do you have any information on why it has claimed your territory?"

Ryda chuckles slightly over a warforged questioning what is natural. Susan, the elves and this owlbear are engaged in a battle over the land. If you were on a battlefield, and you’ve lost your sword because of something your foe did, would you stop fighting because it is natural that you would lose without a weapon, or would you do anything in your power to obtain another one, and continue the fight to the end? They have lost their weapons when the owlbear killed their own hunters, and are asking us to be their replacements.

While she speaks, she glances toward the elf to see what effect her words might have, as well as the curiously quiet Kalashatar.
