Too many categories is a bad thing though. The ceremony takes too long and it doesn't seem as special with everyone winning. :D

and you have the same problem with the same COMPANY winning over and over again rather than different designers and authors, making it more personal and speeches more interesting.

Actually, I'm not worried about this. If one company is that much better then everyone else that they win more then anyone else; good for them. We've had this in the past and when I was judge and reading through everything submitted it become apparent very quickly what companies routinely put out high quality books and who does not.

We should just mail that one company a statue every August and have done with it then.

It sure would cut down on postage, shipping and handling for all involved. B-)

Jaerdaph, that takes all the fun out of it. :D

Seriously, the Electronic Book category is an odd duck, because on the print side we don't have "Paper Book" as a category. The advantage of splitting the Electronic Book category into two or three areas is that it would recognize great work in both short-form and long-form.

And I say that as someone who has benefited from delivering high-quality, long-form electronic books. We don't ask print adventures to compete against print campaign settings, so why do it for electronic publications?

Only if we send it to them C.O.D.

You said that much better than I ever could. B-)

The only problem I have with the current rules regarding PDF submissions involves the case of the sold out print product. Right now if you sell out your print run and literally have no printed copies left, you cannot submit a PDF to be judged instead. It seems weird to penalize a company for being too successful.

I do applaud you for trying to make the rules and stick to them. One of the problems the Origins Awards has had was that the rules went through a period in which they changed every year. Last year the ENnies were not strict in applying their own rules and that was unfortunate. The biggest asset that the ENnies have right now is credibility and maintaining that is really important.
