[Adventure] Marna is Missing (DM: pacdidj, Judge: renau1g)

[sblock="take 10"]You may only take 10 on knowledge checks during this encounter, which aren't a primary skill, so they can't grant you a success. However, if anyone can think of a good use for a knowledge skill, and makes a roll--or can take 10 to earn a roll--that is better than DC15, I'll give them a +2 bonus to their next primary skill check.[/sblock]

Alnar drags Jezebel by the hand to the trashcans and knocks over a trashcan with his foot.

"Oh I'm sorry my dear, I did not mean to push you into those trash bins. I slipped when I bumped into them." Alnar says in a loud voice.

[sblock=action, Bluff= 19]Moving with Jezebel (or trying at least) to R0 and taking a stardard action to kick over a trashcan.

Bluff check = 19[/sblock]

On the Street

Alnar successfully averts the guard's attention by kicking over the metal trash bin, which hits the cobblestone street with a resounding *CLANG*.

The guard has now spied Jezebel and Alnar. He takes a couple of steps closer to see what's going on, and calls out, "Hey youse, watch it over there! Whassa matter? You drunk or somefing?"

Verloc hears the *Clang* of the trashcan and the voice of the guard, and realizes that the other half of the team kept their promise of creating a distraction. Assured that the guard has forgotten about the noise of the book, he gets up and moves further along the wall and finds a fireplace. He searches the fireplace for anything of use.

Jezebel flashes an angry look at Alnar and is about to shove him into the trashcans in return until she thinks better of it. There's no need to make the guard too nervous.

She responds to the guard. "No, he's not drunk: just a clumsy fool. Isn't that right dear?"

ooc: no skill check unless I need one. The guard seems distracted enough for now.

Verloc slips into the room, around the door and along the wall until he finds a bookcase. In the light of the sunrod he searches through the shelves, knocking down a few books while doing so.

Damnit, I'm never that unprofessional, he scolds himself, dropping down on the floor not to be seen.

Garry sends Joox a displeased expression but not before he too stumbles on something on the ground and falls down to the floor. " This is just great ", he says with much sarcasm. Quickly he hides the source of light, should the guard peak inside the house.

[sblock=Actions]
Standard: Searches the table, got 13
Move: 2k, fails stealth check, got 11
Minor: Stoves the sunrod under his vest

Deciding he is not going to be able to see anything of use from this far back in the room, Bann-ur follows Garry's path into the room and around to the far side of the nearest table. Amazingly, the hulking goliath does this in complete silence while his teammates are making all the noise! Just as he goes to inspect the paper laying on the table Garry falls over and then hides the light away, leaving it too dark for Bann-ur to see anything.
[sblock=OOC]Figured it would be better to post now and if I failed my Stealth check at least we'd have the two noises at about the same time so it would be easier to cover than one after another after another. But then I went ahead and made my Stealth check! Go figure. :confused:[/sblock][sblock=Stat block/Actions][sblock=Actions]Start= 35/35 hps

Move= to I/5 Stealth check (1d20-1=15) Made it!!

Standard= Check out table with paper on it between Bann-ur and the bookshelf. Perception check (1d20+5=7) Fail to see anything in the sudden darkness after Garry hides the light away.

In the Office

Verloc stands up and moves over to the unlit fireplace. He takes a quick look at it, but decides it's probably not worth searching for document forgery supplies.

Garry moves over to the desk on the southern side of the room and makes a thorough search. His efforts are rewarded with a quill pen, inkpot, and sealing wax, which could be used to fill out and seal the departure forms. Bann-ur had moved over to the desk to assist Garry in his search, but unfortunately, just as Garry moved to show Bann-ur his discovery, he tripped over a desk leg, knocking himself over and causing it to make a scraping noise along the floor. He quickly squelches the sunrod's light as he falls.

On the Street

The guard outside hears the desk leg scrape across the floor inside the office. "Hey! What's goin' on? What was that sound?"

He looks as if he's about to go peer in the office window.

[sblock=actions]Round 9

Inside

Garry: Move to K7 (Stealth check = fail), search desk at J6-I7 (standard, Perception check = success), Hide sunrod's light (minor)

Bann-ur: Move to I5 (Stealth check = success), search desk at J6-I7 (standard, Perception check = fail)

Joox/Verloc: Stand up (standard), Move to G8, Look at fireplace (minor)

Outside
Ferris: You're up!

Alnar: Grab Jezebel's hand (minor), Move 3 squares to R0 dragging Jezebel to Q-1, Bluff check to distract guard by knocking over trash bin = success (standard)

Jezebel: You're up!

Your party has found the first of 3 objects required for the forgeries!

No map update this time since things outside haven't changed, and inside everything is pitch black now.

Ferris or Jezebel now each have a chance to distract the guard somehow. One of you will need to beat Bluff 14, Diplomacy 13, or Intimidate 16. After either a success here, or after both Ferris and Jezebel have submitted actions, the party inside can start the next round.

If the folks outside don't successfully divert the guard's attention, it will count as the first of 3 group failures which could end this skill challenge unsuccessfully. It will also not be safe to use the sunrod next round in this case, and perception checks will need to be made in the dark with a -5 penalty (use previous maps to "remember" what your character has seen).

Ferris, hearing yet another loud noise from within, What are they doing in there, moving furniture?!, steps out into the street with a mild stagger and shows his open hands to the guard. In a loud voice, trying to cover the noises from inside, Ferris says, "Don't mind my friends, they are merely two lovers who can't seem to keeps their hands off one another. I have been trying to get them to keep their voices down, but you know how young lovers are... I mean can you blame the poor boy for his addled wits? See the lovely lass on his arm, a rare and exotic beauty the likes of which you have never seen. And her nature as gentle as a spring lamb. Ferris smiles to himself. We are truly sorry to have interrupted you at your post, good watchman, please forgive us."

[sblock=Actions] Move: 3 squares to L, -1
Standard: Diplomacy check [/sblock]

[sblock=Diplomacy: Success] Diplomacy=16 [/sblock]
