a) Could a Smite Evil be used as part of a grapple check for damage, or can it only be used for attack rolls as such (thus requiring one to use the "attack while in a grapple" option if one wishes to smite an opponent that one is grappling)?

b) Also, just making sure: If a huge opponent is grappling for damage, she makes a grapple check and adds the +8 special size modifier for being huge. But if the huge opponent is making an attack roll while in a grapple, she instead uses the regular size modifier of -2 for being huge, right?

Smite works with a "normal melee attack." I wouldn't call making a grapple check to deal damage equal to unarmed strike as "normal," hell, I wouldn't even call it a "melee attack." If you're adding your +8 modifier as part of the attack and you only add that modifier when making a special attack, it'd be fair to call it a special attack. So yeah, you'd probably have to take the -4 penalty with light, unarmed, and natural weapons only to attack during a grapple.

She adds +8 only to special attacks such as grapple checks and bullrushing. Dealing unarmed damage during a grapple is a special attack, you make an opposed grapple check for it. AFAIK, attacking an opponent in grapple is not a special attack, it's just an attack.
