Issue with Character Builder

So I finally got enough spare change to sign up for a month of DDI.

Lo and behold, once I download the character builder, the one thing I really wanted DDI for, I discover that the CB ALWAYS installs the DEMO version, and refuses to connect to the update server.

So far the only thing I haven't done is restart my computer, because if I do I'll lose internet access. (My cable is funny and whenever I restart my PC it takes me all day to get the PC connected to the network again.)

I'm running Windows XP, and I already have the .net passport thing.

Does anyone have any advice for me? I'd hate to think I just wasted 10 dollars on stuff I didn't want.

Edit: Restarted after clearing the registry as per the FAQ. No dice. Anyone have a clue?

Make sure you log-in on the Wizards's site first before downloading. I think that's required to get the correct version.

I've been signed in the past 15+ attempts.

Odd, as I just downloaded a fresh version today with no problems. Here is the link to the CB; won't work if not logged in: CB. It'll require you to log in again to update.

Isn't that the same link as from the Wizards site? Do you think it'll work differently? I'm gonna try it once I clear all the stuff off of this PC again. >.>

Edit: I downloaded it, but it didn't require a second sign-in.

When does it ask, after I install? I haven't installed it yet, I figure maybe if you walk me through step by step... I'll get there.

Logged out and checked: Does seem to be the same Exe. Odd As I said, no troubles today when installing.

It's never asked. So, I suppose I run the .exe I just downloaded from the site, and pray when I install it asks?

If it doesn't try to update during install, it'll check when you first run the CB (or second).

It has been unable to connect to the server every single time I get to that step. >.>
