What "sucks" about ENWorld General Forum....

..and the other sites I used to frequent is the time right now: new minis set on the market. Regardless of edition, minis work for all of them. There used to be a buzz, especially when the skirmish game was up and running. People would talk about the minis previews, speculate on set content, heck I almost miss the RPG-only people constantly complaining about there being PC minis in sets and the inclusion of ANY mini that wasn't directly needed in their game within the next month. Well, almost on the latter.

There's a great set that just hit the streets and there's a minute thread in the 4E forum and another about wondering why his ground-shipped minis aren't there yet.

That's it.

I admit things changed a lot for me when they went to a Tuesday release from a Friday. I used to celebrate New Minis Day, usually with the SO. We'd take the day off, sleep in a bit, go out to lunch at an ethnic restaurant we'd never eaten at before and then head over to the FLGS to pick up and open the new batch of plasticrack. Tuesday is a lot harder to do because of meeting schedules for work, etc.

With all the pseudo-philosophical edition war talk and otherwise general filler talk going on, why not much buzz in the general forum about something that is good for us all?

Because... while it isn't bad for anyone, it isn't good for us all, either? I expect most of the folks on the site have been in gaming for a while, and may be about as full up on minis as they need to be.

To be fair, I haven't used minis in my games since the 80s. The last set I purchased was when WotC first came out with the plastic ones, and that was only to find out if they floated (looked GOOD in the aquarium!)

The minis took a huge hit when the skirmish game was no longer officially supported. Only the dedicated fans are going to use the unofficial skirmish rules. And even then, people aren't going to be skirmishing nearly as much around the game stores (if at all).

It kind of shows how much they were used for skirmishing compared to how much they were used for RPG games. I assume now that most of the talk was from skirmishers that were glad to buy them for their armies.

This is my guess on what the major cause for lack of discussion is from. Cause I completely agree with you. Ever since they stopped with the skirmish game, the minis forums have been ghost towns.

I still like collecting them. I don't even care that I already have a lot. I swap out my duplicates for the new minis. So instead of having 5 Kenku Sneaks, I now have 3 Kenku Sneaks and 2 Kenku Warriors.
