Atari announced D&D Daggerdale to be released 2011.
As far as I know that will be the first D&D video game since 4E.

Details are sparse. There is only a trailer and the usual marketing babble to be found.

The game seems to be koop/multiplayer focused and more on the action-rpg/hack&slash side, so don't expect the PnP feel to be captured by it.

It will be released for the PC, and as digital download for the Xbox and PS3 (no store release for the consoles it seems. Doesn't look like a high budget release).

Set in Moria by the looks of it. Very lame generic hack-n-slasher. Low budget (live arcade game). Not at all what I was waiting for I must say :(

EDIT: I hate the WoW-ification of CRPG.. the gloweyness and cartoonyness.

Bah Humbug :p

EDIT2: having looked at it again I doubt it is a 4E game at all. I don't think WotC are impressed with Atari (so much that the game isn't even mentioned on the Wizards site) but Atari have the DnD licence and are just trying to cash in. Until Atari releases the licence to someone that cares, I doubt we will see an actual DnD game only fantasy based PC games with the DnD logo plastered to it.

What's up with the mix of Forgotten Realms and Nentir Vale continuity? Is the Zhentarim part of the "core" 4e cosmology, now? If so, why the reference to the Forgotten Realms in the announcement?

Isn't there a lawsuit by Hasbro against Atari - something about them wanting to pull the licence?

No mix. Either it is a mistake or Atari have left the reservation...

The bummer is that it's realtime. Gosh, do I long for a tactical turn based crpg based on 4E... everyone complained that it seems like the ruleset is made to be that game. I guess they could make it realtime and just have cooldowns or something, but unless you can directly translate powers in the phb to the game, it's not even D&D in rules or feel.

We shall see... even if not D&D, I think some good coop hack and slash games will sell well on xbox live as there don't seem to be as many as there used to be.

I didn't see any references to Nentir Vale stuff. Did I miss something?

Dungeons & Dragons Daggerdale centers on the desperate struggle to defeat the evil Rezlus and his Zhentarim in their attempt to invade and conquer the Dalelands. Dungeons & Dragons Daggerdale is an engaging multi-player experience that introduces a riveting narrative and treacherous new characters. Players are charged with the task of restoring order to Nentir Vale by unlocking the secrets of the Mines of Tethyamar, defeating the evil within the treacherous Tower of the Void, leading to the final confrontation with Rezlus himself.

Hm. Its unlikely that this is a simple typo. After all when do persons type something like "Nethir Vale" by mistake? I don't think the marketing people who wrote this are familiar with D&D so that they know names of places when they do not appear on the instructions they become. Maybe the instructions were wrong...

But I don't think story will be a big focus for this game anyway. Likely a standard "good vs evil mastermind with possible plottwist" story.

I'd change the thread title, as this really isn't a 4e game. It's just Atari desperately trying to squeeze the last bits of cash before the license is gone.
