Monsters as pc

I hope you guys see the ambiguity here, its not, as is often the case, cut & dry/black or white. I cant find any info on what happens to clothes...and as such a Dop. will enter a town and have to obtian the clothing of each she intends to mimic?

I think the conversation so far is leading to forcing this pc to sacrifice a feat to mimic
held carried items or just change the appearance of items held / carried.

Doppelgangers can mimic clothing.

Doppelgangers can mimic clothing.

it doesnt say that...

* The creature is effectively camouflaged as a creature of its new form, and gains a +10 bonus on Disguise checks if it uses this ability to create a disguise.
* Any gear worn or carried by the creature that can’t be worn or carried in its new form instead falls to the ground in its space. If the creature changes size, any gear it wears or carries that can be worn or carried in its new form changes size to match the new size. (Nonhumanoid-shaped creatures can’t wear armor designed for humanoid-shaped creatures, and viceversa.) Gear returns to normal size if dropped.

This fails to indicate the most simple of info. If the Dopper is wearing a blue turtle neck and the person the Dopper wants to mimic is wearing a pink dress with purple pokodots, what happens? Does the turtle neck change into a dress? Does it change color only? both? It indicats that items both worn and held will stay with the Dopper but says nothing about the appearance of said items. If Dopper cannot hold or wear item with new form then they fall to ground and thats about all it says.

thanks for the pages and you went thru the energy to look it up for me, thanks, appreciate the effort, buuuut I dont have those books. Did they further on the stuff worn/carried and what happens to the stuff that isnt dropped? That is the book clearly indicate what happens to the stuff that doesnt stay on, but nothing really says what happens to the stuff that stays on the Dopper when she changes. The books say belonging change size if nec. This however does suggest the Dopper has the ability to change what he wears, sooo ???

Looking for a definate here, a solid, a concrete "this is the rule" with no guess work. But Im thinking this is for some reason uncharted waters, I mean the other players, thus far, are at best, guessing. Theres nothing so far that anyone has said that explains in any detail what happens to the stuff on the Dopper.

If you know great, please fill me in, agian thanks

Those pages have official art of Doppelgangers (RoD) and Changelings (RoE) shapeshifting from one form to another. In fact the Doppelganger is changing from a hardened Archer to a delicate Elven temptress and it shows her/his armor and heavy clothing turning into a silken gown (mind you there is no evidence this is real armor or anything, so we should simply assume it was posing as wearing armor).

Now, for a good, in rules explicitly example, the Changeling's ability to shapeshift is based off the Disguise Self spell instead of the Alter Self ability and they can form clothing out of their body mass. Changelings, if you didn't know, are descendants of Doppelgangers, so if their weaker ability to shift can mimic clothing than a Doppelganger should be able to.

You see thats been the problem thus far, RAW under the Dopper is incomplete, at best. I think its one of those things you have to go with the direction/intention of the writter. So I will suggest that she be able to change the appearance of the stuff she wears, I just wished they said something, freakin anything about the armor she wears. I cant believe Im the first on this site to find this huge hole in Dopper's?

thanks

errumm does that mean she can change her long sword into any other weapon like a battleaxe, warhammer, or spear? How would this be stopped, she could make whatever weapon she needed, right?

presume they, like Mystique or skin-painters, use the +10 disguise check to visually duplicate the general APPEARANCE clothes/armor while remaining naked in actuality -- thus its easy for them to appear "dressed" however needed/desired while retaining their innate natural AC regardless of appearance.

TRUE clothes/armor actually worn however are "gear" and thus does NOT change when the rest of their appearance does unless it has some innate property allowing such (ie: Sizing, Morphic). This likewise applies to weapons/etc.

Doppelgangers are like Mystique. They can't actually change their gear or anything, they can just morph their body mass to mimic worn gear and natural weapons.
