Dear moderators that were involved in either the decision or action steps,

Thank you. I think I love you. Of course, seeing as how I am in these sorts of love relationships, chances are i'll forget to call you on valentine's day, or your birthday, or our anniversary, so don't take it personally.

This is a great idea in theory, but I've noticed over the last week or so that I'm not really seeing announcements from publishers about new products like I used to anymore. They're either getting lost and bumped down in the chafe or publishers are not posting in there anymore for whatever reason.

Just thought I'd mention it and perhaps we can keep an eye on it now that EN World is back up in Firefox and Chrome.

We had little evidence that many people were seeing them before, as they were in an out-of-the-way forum that you didn't have a reason to go to except to look for announcements. We hope the extra traffic will ultimatley get them more views and more discussion - this is a discussion board more than it is an announcement board, after all

Well, perhaps we need a "announcement" or "press release" topic for that forum - then getting them out of the chaff would be easier.

I could see that working in either of two ways.

1. Sticky that is locked and mods update with relative links to threads about press releases and such.

2. single thread where discussion takes place and the actual release or new info gets lost in the pages of discussions.

ok maybe 3...

Industry people are the only ones able to post in the thread so that people can see new release info, but it would kill discussion of it if only industry persons can post in it, and might make them feel less important if they have fewer posts than others.

How about one of them tags. Those new image things, that says not the game name, but is something about NEWS or PRESS RELEASE, or something that shows what thread is actually form someone within the industry offering new information, rather than someone else talking about one of their products/lines.

Even Morrus/whomever can easily click the image and grab all recent press releases that way to decide what to stick on the front page rather than playing hunt for them.

It's the same problem I'm seeing all over the place right now. If the icon says '4E' it doesn't really tell you anything. The same with 'Rules' or 'Wizards'. They are either not specific enough, or people aren't using them that way. For a good example look at the Pathfinder forum. The icons are practically non-existant, and having 'Pathfinder' there is useless.

That's cool - you guys have the actual usage data. I'm winging it here. :)

Personally, I'd rather see publishers use the closest applicable icon available for their product announcement (4e, Pathfinder, ICONS etc.) than duplicate the Pathfinder Forum effect.

Morrus is master of icons. I'll flag this for him, so that he knows about the lack of options in the Pathfinder forum.

That is actually precisely what I meant.

They are not intended to be terribly specific - that's what thread titles are for. The topics are just enough to get you a bit of a "sub-forum" matching some very general scheme. If they were specific, the drop-down list of them would become so long that finding the one you wanted wouldn't be reasonable, and they wouldn't get used..

That's a separate issue - what is useful is a bit context dependent. The system is still new, and not everything's been fleshed out yet.

Well, the Announcement (or News or Release or whatever it turns out to be) wouldn't replace those others. It'd be up to the person posting the announcement to decide which was most appropriate.
