DDXP Liveblogging

So much for a bump in excitement from DDXP......

I wish I could just get the monster builder, and not have to wait for the VTT to be "ready".

There better not be a shortage of content for DDI, now that they've cancelled all these books, indeed, I'd expect more content (hahahahaha, couldn't help myself there, sorry).

Oh well, I'll just save money for something else.

Also, if you don't have an FLGS, how does this strategy of encounters work? Oh, and even if you do have an FLGS, what, exactly, are they supposed to sell me to stay in business?

cards...

ok so in reality the old store here in ct brass dragon had a great set up, they had a fridge full of soda and candy...and a deal with the local pizza place.

I think a game store with a little bit of work int he food angle for encounters could work...

Boxed sets and board games and card decks, oh my.

Not a fan of any of those things, so this is pretty bad news for me.

I'll keep my DDi subscription for now, though. If the CB is fixed soon, and updates start coming on a regular basis (with good, interesting gaming stuff), then it'll be worth it.

The board games sound interesting.

Shame about the whole 'China' problem. The fact that they apparently can't make these in America at a profit is baffling to me. The costs must be too high. Damn shame that even as technology advances with ye old 3d printers that the materials and transportation aspect seems to be taking its tolls.

I would love to see them do a Compendium style books on the magic items and monsters of D&D though. Those i'd pick up just as I did for 2nd edition's magic items and wizard and cleric compendiums.
I agree with you about the idea of having compendium-style books for magic items; however, I now prefer monsters in Vault format.

Sounds like some interesting stuff, potentially. The Heroes of ... books should be interesting. Maybe the Shadowfell stuff, but hard to say. BoVD, meh, have to see that. Maybe some of the adventure and setting stuff. Definitely slower than the last 2 years were, but that's OK.

Very interested in...
Book of Vile Darkness
- This makes me happy
Heroes of Shadow
More monster tokens and poster maps!
- WotC needs to produce monster tokens for Monster Manual 3
Nentir Vale Monster Vault
Neverwinter
- We need to find out if there will be 3 books for Neverwinter like with all the previous campaign settings
Shadowfell boxed set

Slightly interested in...
Conquest of Nerath board game
Gardmore Abby boxed set
Heroes of the Feywild
- I hope they make a Feywild boxed set too.
Treasure Cards
Wrath of Ashardalon board game

Not interested in...
Dungeon Tiles
Exclusive content in the DDI Compendium. I want my crunch in book format, damn it!
Legend of Drizzt board game

I'm disappointed that the Ravenloft RPG has been shelved, but I do want it to be the best game it can be, so I'll forgive 'em.

Tomorrow, someone needs to find out for certain whether or not Heroes of Sword and Spell and Hero Builders' Handbook are still going to be released this year (or maybe next?).

At the start of the live blog it is 'deck, deck, deckity, decks' I thought I was accidentally reading a MtG blog! Still it got a little better, but none of the releases excites me enough to return to 4E purchases.

I am starting to get jazzed too. I finally see where they are going this year. I understand now why they pulled the print books that they did. Essentially, they are putting that stuff in the DDI instead of in print, because people were only using 2% of an entire book, and that doesn't make sense for long term stability of the game. So now they are focused more on usable things, like descriptions, and hardcopy maps, and other things which will get used more than the small percentage of a mechanics-heavy splat book. Meanwhile the mechanics-heavy stuff will still be there, in the DDI and the magazine.

I really do not get the 5% or above 2% argument. What % of DDI do people use? Even if you make 100 different characters, what % of the options do you use? Not much, I would say.

Plus, who cares how much you use if you buy the book? Even if I bought AVII and put it on a shelf and never read it, why does WOTC care if I buy AVIII?

This argument makes no sense to me.
