Noob Question

I've heard good things about Pathfinder, my question is how compatible is it with 3.5 WotC stuff?

Can you use all your old 3.5 books with it, without modification?

Thanks

I'd say it's about 90% compatible. You really can use an awful lot, particularly adventures.

I agree with this. It's compatible enough that I'm able to run adventures designed for 3/3.5 and with only a little adjustment to DCs and HP/AC of enemies due to the PCs being slightly more buff than 3/3.5.

I agree that it is VERY compatable. About 90% is right and I have been converting the monsters which has been going quite well but still a slight headache.

I have been converting creatures for the Curse of the Crimson Throne AP and in many cases it's as simple as adding a few feats and skills however sometimes there are changes in HD like D10s for outsiders instead of D8s and undead adding Charisma to they're hitpoints and the HD reducing from D12 to D8. You'll need to open word processor and compare with the books.

PCs are slightly more buff so you have to remember Tiefling and Aasimar are effectively level adustment +0 unlike 3.5 where they were +1. Also some classes should be changed like my friend did for my pathfinderised 3.5 warlock he gave me an extra starting invocation, increased my HD like all other spell casters, allowed my character ot have a buckler or shield like the bard can so these things aren't too hard to do and I hope what I've said helps you :)

On another note, some of the SRD APs are based on monsters from old 3.5 books like tome of horrors and advanced bestiary (by Green Ronin)

Modules and monsters are always easy to use since that's in the DM's arena. Prestige classes, spells and feats I'm much more unlikely to allow into Pathfinder. Becasue classes are now stronger and characters get more feats it can be easier to abuse the system using the older material.

You can use 3.5 adventures really easy. All you really need to do is give a monster its CMB and CMD, and you only need to do that if a player is using combat maneuvers against it. Changing its HD and other little things is really unnecessary. You can always just add 1 or 2 HP per HD to the creature if you feel its HPs are too low.

Skills are pretty easy too. Just use the highest of the creature's Spot or Listen for Perception, highest of its Move Silently and Hide for Stealth, etc. The only thing you really need to be mindful of is that some creatures that used to be immune to sneak attacks no longer are, such as undead, I believe.
