Botched up launch of recent IDW D&D comic series.

A very important issue not mentioned here is that the cover price for #0 was $1.00, the other two have a cover price of $3.99.

Take that into account and the drop in numbers is not severe at all. In fact I'd say they're pretty normal, second issues always do worse than first issues (o.k. maybe there are odd exceptions, but anyway).

If one ignores IDW D&D issue #0, the drop from IDW D&D issue #1 to issue #2 is around 25%.

As a point of comparison by examining the DC "World of Warcraft" comic figures, it also has an approximate 25% drop from issue #1 to issue #2.

For later issues in the DC "World of Warcraft" comic series, the drop is approximately 5% from one issue to the next.

Are they also counting the free issues handed out at PAX and GenCon? At least one of my FLGS's were handing out issue #0 gratis.

Probably not.

IIRC, Diamond only really counts the stuff which goes direct to comic book stores and whatever else that goes through their distribution network.

(Diamond is essentially the "big gorilla" in the direct market).

That is correct, and it's just what is ordered through Diamond and has nothing to do with actual sales at retail.

For sure.

The last time I was at one of the nearby comic stores, one store still had something like 6 or 7 copies of the IDW D&D issue #0 sitting in the "bargain" section. Hardly any takers over the last six months.
