Somewhat inspired by the 1-20th lvl thread, I am curious: what class(es) do you think have the most survivabiliy? Which ones are the least likely to die? (Or the most?) Personally with my limited experience I would think it would firstly be some sort of spellcaster. They are squishy at first level, but as they rise in power they have a vast array of options and dont often chance melee since they can fight at a distance. More specifically, I would pick a cleric because at low levels they (unless cloistered) can have heavy armor and a moderate BAB if forced into melee.
A cleric is not simply a CRPG White Mage, they have some offense (although not as much as wizard or a fighter unless you CoDZilla), they can buff themselves and the party (a great many of the Cleric spells are buffs. If you ignore them you're missing out); and lastly-they ARE the cleric. No one in the party actually wants them to die-that is to say, if someone HAD to die, the party would not pick the cleric, they would sacrifice themselves before they thought to let the cleric die. They would probably never think "Okay, if they start to catch up with us, I'll trip the cleric and maybe they'll slow down to devour him giving us time to escape."
