Metamagic and Energy Descriptors

Hello. I bet there is a post about this but I'm a new member so the search function doesnt work for me yet.

I've seen several discussions about the Locate City bomb using a combo of metamagic feats. IMO that tactic shouldn't be allowed. I'm looking to do something similar but not so ridiculous.

Basically I want to know if you can apply the 'flash frost spell' metamagic then swap the energy descriptor with 'energy substitution'. If yes, then where is this discussed in the rules.

Thanks.

It is never explicitly discussed in RAW. By the rules as stated, there is no reason it does not work that way (Cone of Cold -> Flash Frost -> Energy Sub to Sonic or whatever), and the benefit would never be so great as to disallow it.

The LCB is definitely amusing. I'm actually building an entire world off of that idea.

Thanks everyone. I'm making a Druid/Stormcaster with lots of air/cold/electric spells. Since druids don't actually have tons of electric spells I want to use this combo of feats to make some fun cold/electric hybrids.

Flash Frost -> Energy Sub (electricity) -> Thunderbolt Stormcaster abilitity

applied to Energy Vortex (cold), Corona of Cold, Ice Storm, etc...

Umm, what's the locate city bomb? I'm unfamiliar with the term but it sounds like an interesting exploit.

Also, what's Flash Frost? Sounds like a feat from Frostfell, maybe?

LCB is a group of three or four metamagic effects applied to Locate City, a spell from Races of Stone (iirc). The effects deal a minor amount of damage (around 5-6 points) and push everything effected to the edge of the spell (or the nearest solid object directly opposite the center of the spell) for 1d6 per 10' damage.

Another fancy trick is to forget the pushing effect and sub in Fell Drain to turn everything effected into Wights, since most commoners have only 2-3 HP.

Locate City's range is 10miles/level, so a CL20 Wizard has a range of 200miles.

Everything within 200miles takes 5-6 damage, takes a negative level, dies, becomes a mindless, violent Wight 24 hours later, and rampages across the country side.

I'm actually using this as the basis for a universe, where a rogue Wizard uses this to take over the Underdark.

Interesting...that's actually not a bad approximation of the end result of the necromantic analog of the Final Solution in Harry Turtledove's Darkness novels.

I'd like to take a closer look at this- got a link?

If I'm right, if you use Fell Animate in the mix, you get instant zombie apocalypse.
