There is a secret project underway to transfer GRRM's brain to an organic-quantum computer that will enable him to focus on all his projects simultaneously and make him immortal so that he can finish them all; given that ASoIaF seems to be following a trend similar to Moore's Law, we can expect the series to finish somewhere around the year 4441 and come in at a total of 3.8 million books.

The original number of books was three. Then he noticed that the story wouldn't fit inside those.
Oh dear! The dreaded 'Wheel of Time'-syndrome.

This was something I really liked about the Harry Potter series: The author did some excellent planning before writing her novels and managed to stay true to her original promise.

I understand that this can be sort of frustrating, but for me the only thing I really care about is whether or not the books are good and I'm enjoying them. If so, I don't really care if the author ends up dragging the series out beyond his original expectations. I'm immensely enjoyed both The Wheel of Time and A Song of Ice and Fire, so the expanding story and long delays haven't really bothered me. Some people feel differently, though, and that's cool.

Excellent news. Of course, if we have to wait this many years for the last two.... Hope he's got more than a few chapters on those.

You mean the last five? ;)

Reading the latest blog post and he mentions that Dance was threatening to turn into two books. It was already half of Feast. Imagine if the same book had just kept growing and growing.
