Alright, I'll spill it.

Hal Jordan becomes the Green Lantern then fights and defeats Parallax... via some sappy Sailor Moon Esque "Green Lanterns" unite power attack... which initially fails but weakens Parallax enough that the Green Lantern is able to get in the killing blow.

Hopelessly generic, with infodumps all over the place. Hector Hammond was more interesting than Ryan Reynolds' Hal Jordan.

I loved it. More importantly, my wife and kids loved it.

I liked Reynolds as Hal Jordan. I thought Strong as Sinestro was perfect.

This movie, unlike many other comic book characters had a whole lot of ground to cover -- and I felt it delivered.

1. The Energy Sources at play - Will vs. Fear.
2. The Green Lantern Core
3. Oa and the Guardians
4. The threat of Parallax
5. The hero's origin story
6. Establishing the villains (and setting up future villains)

Your average superhero movie only has to handle the latter two -- the framework is much less involved. Batman's origin is more accessible to the casual movie-goer, and let's face it, Superman's can be done in the first 10 or 15 minutes of a movie if they rush it.

The special effects didn't blow me away (although I liked them), but I felt that they were on par with Thor and other movies this year.

Now, if Captain America (and this is the one I've been waiting for) can deliver a super-hero hat trick for 2011, I'll be one happy comic fan!!!

Those were the movies merits. BUT the movie could have been far better, notably the copious amount of time spent on the extraneous love interest could have been far better used.

A huge wasted opportunity of a movie. Could have been good, maybe even great, but Green Lantern has to settle with being mediocre.

You just know a movie that a movie is bad when the background characters are more appealing than the lead , or that the story is so uninspired and boring that you pray for an action scene or some nifty special effects to brighten things up.

Sorry DC, but you'll need better than this to beat Marvel in the movie game.

Being only passingly familiar with the source material, I enjoyed the movie. There was lots of action, good special effects, and the 3D was better than most of the movies I've seen since Avatar (especially the opening and closing sequences). It was a little thin on character development, particularly for the leads, but they seemed well cast. I feel like I got enough information for that universe to make sense and followed everything well enough. It is set up to make a better sequel, so I will check that out when it gets made.

I loved it! Not as good as Iron Man, but a great flick! During the opening monologue, I realized that the film might get a bit confusing if you didn't already have a passing familiarity with GL, but maybe not.

I was convinced the costumes were going to suck, but I actually liked them. Still too CG looking, but the glowing costumes were fun. The ring constructs were awesome! Parallax was a much more frightening "monster" and better designed than the comics version. I thought the story was good, but yes, it was light on character development, although you got enough to understand the film. I enjoyed the acting, with the exception of Lively (Carol Ferris) who was a bit wooden.

The world and character design was inspired and a fantastic reimagining of the GL mythos. I especially enjoyed how Parallax was a blend of Parallax from the comics and the corrupted Guardian Krona. They even foreshadowed it well by the missing and broken seat at the Guardians council chamber.

All-in-all, it was great!

I was convinced the costumes were going to suck, but I actually liked them. Still too CG looking

The costumes are 100% CGI -- no actual costume was created. I dunno why, but that kind of got me uninterested to start with.
