So that means it's gonna be a more simplified game opposed to the others?

It's certainly a possibility - especially if it is intended as an intro product - but I don't think the price point is directly connected to it, no. Or rather, I think a lower price point means the set up and accessories may be less complex - pawns instead of minis, less tokens and fiddly bits all around, and maybe a more standard game board instead of a fully dynamic one - but the rules can retain a great deal of complexity even within such constraints. We're too far out to really make any predictions for sure, I imagine.

Looks like a "D&D Heroquest"/"D&D Descent: Journeys into the dark" game to me...but I know many will say: "You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! You finally made D&D into a board game! " ;)

It would not surprise me at all if the future of Dungeons and Dragons *is* board games.

I expect that eventually they will use the Talisman model of a base board game followed by expansions.

you can keep your boards, I'll take the battlemat anyday

or gaming paper

or nothing at all and keep it all in your head

although it does seem like this will sell more (and thus better) than previous attempts at this, however it will not replace normal D&D...or so I pray (to Pelor of course)
