Since I can't go to GenCon, I will be...

... running a Pathfinder game this weekend for my wife and my 9-year-old daughter. First time playing an RPG for my daughter; it should be a lot of fun.

I'm also sorting my Magic cards sets into appropriate binders. I've let 9 years of sets go by without sorting them into my main binders (one each for each color, one for lands, etc.). Let me tell you, that is a LOT of alphabetizing! Certainly won't be done this weekend!

Are you doing anything special gaming-wise if you're not at GenCon?

Nothing GenCon specific, but I'm always shooting for a Pathfinder game on the weekend.

Good luck with having your daughter play an RPG for the first time. I started my kids on it when my oldest was 10. His younger brother, at 5, wanting to be included in the game with his brother, got the "Sure you can play," with a nod and wink to my eldest, figuring the little guy would lose interest in about 5 minutes. Turns out not only was I wrong, but he's a darn good RPGer!

For me, gaming with my kids has helped renew that sense of wonder you get the first time you fight an orc, snatch victory from the brink of defeat, and get to recount your exploits & victories. Fun, fun stuff.

Best of luck.

Our normal weekly session will be this Saturday. Looking forward to letting my Swordmage loose on the elemental plane of Air.

Reuniting with (gaming) friends over the weekend - everybody was traveling and it's been a while so we're going to play Munchkin or Magic. And probably chat about his Mystara/Keep on the Borderlands campaign which just started. I get to play a straight up knight, borderline lawful stupid, and I'm going to play it to the hilt. His name is a (slightly imperfect) anagram of Van Halen, so you know he's going to be METAL.

I love D&D. :)

Getting lost in fantasy maps
I'm hoping to start some Classic BattleTech for my 10-year-old son. He's lusted after my lead figure collection for years now. Time to put them into play!

Friday: First we meet at a local taqueria and after eating go play board games.

Saturday: Go to museum and continue cataloging material that nobody has cared about since the early 20th century and hopefully find more cool police reports, business letters, and pictures.

Sunday: Player Pathfinder again, this time with new character.

Saturday night we start the first session of an online CoC game (set in Arthurian England). Sunday we play Dnd (3.5 E6 - classic dungeoncrawl). Fun times!

...in a sales conference two hours north.. with no way to get there when it's over (rode with one of the other guys in the agency and we're going the wrong direction).

So close.. yet so far away....
