Converting Epic Level Creatures

I think we are maybe talking at cross purposes. Since we're doing just a conversion of a single tentacle, I thought we want just the usual speed that a single tentacle would move at on its own. The 18 mile movement of the entire body should be some sort of "hyperdrive" that it doesn't use a whole lot, right?

On the other hand, it could move faster than the entire body, like legs moves faster than the creature they propel, or an arm can reach out and grab faster than a creature's whole body can move.

What does Shade prefer?

Yeah, this is a bit tricky. I'm just not sure how much is too much to handle for the DM.

Frankly, I don't think it'd make much difference. Whether it's 18 miles or just 1 mile, on the typical scales 3E combats operate at both are "anywhere on the battlefield". Besides, if it wanted to it probably could quickened greater teleport whereever it wants.

True. Ok, someone just pick a number for homebrews.

Well 18 miles is pretty much 95000 feet. Assuming it runs and has the Run feat, that's a Move of 19000. If we say "that's in AD&D 1 minute rounds, yes I know it was a BECMI monster but I'm not listening to you, but it'll move 1/10th as far in a 6-second 3rd edition round".

That makes it 1900 feet. Round it to 1800 feet.

So, Speed 1800 ft. (360 squares)?

Ok, now we have the speed, how about the reach and then the maw size? Reach of 1000 ft, just so it's not as fast as the speed?

That's be OK, although I would not object to cutting it down to 500 ft. reach if you'd prefer a more modest Reach.

That'd be the Reach with their bite attack presumably, their base Reach is likely to be 50 ft. - the top rate for an Epic Colossal creature.

E.g. Space/Reach: 50 ft. / 50 ft. (500 ft with bite) or (1000 ft. with bite)

500 ft is probably enough. Not many PCs are going to be able to attack it effectively from farther than that anyway.

How much for the maw? 300 ft?
