What is the pantheon like? Apart from the crunch considerations, I think each deity should have at least two domains that fit them.
After skimming through the lists and discussions other people have provided, I might suggest coming at your problem from the opposite direction.
Your purpose in creating these domains is to have 4-6 different "cleric types" for the PC to choose from. So,
1) create a base list of spells every cleric will have.
2) choose your cleric types. You mentioned Druid and Paladin, I think, earlier. Healer, War Priest, Elementalist, Summoner are a few other roles I can think of...
3)Pick and choose spells to add to your base list that create this type of cleric.
4) select a domain power (tweaked as needed) that fits with the spells you chose for each type of cleric.
4) come up with a name you like that goes with the list.
Don't try to squeeze the current domain lists into your thinking. They don't REALLY do what you are trying to accomplish, IMO.
Add another voice to the "What's your pantheon going to be?"
If you're going for quicky/simple/bare bones just pick what people are likely to worship...sans elements or alignmentsconfused: But, hey. Your game. Moving on...) and tack on what domains make sense to those deities.
I'd probably go with something like this:
God/Goddess of: suggested domains
Battle, Courage & Valor: War, Animal, Protection
The Sun, Inspiration & Light: Sun, Healing, Protection
The Moon, Secrets & Shadows: Magic, Healing, Knowledge
Nature, the Harvest & Weather: Animal, Plant, "Weather"?
Death, Insight & Judgement: Death, Knowledge, Magic
Pain, Fear & Domination: War, Death, Magic
Healing, Love & Beauty: Healing, Sun, Protection
Monsters, the Unknown & Destruction: Destruction, War, Death
Sooo, looks like, if you want a list of just 10 domains, I guess you go with:
Animal
Death
Destruction
Healing
Knowledge
Magic
Plant
Protection
Sun
War
...but then, without elemental domains, need to pick and choose the weather spells and clump them together for a Weather domain (like we used to have...or just take Weather out of the deity's portfolio and make it just "Nature and Harvest".
Good luck and happy domaining.
