Let's not discuss 5e...

Believe me, this is the only thread with the nomenclature "5e" in the title, that I've ever even looked at. Needless to say, 4e did nothing for me, so I've completely lost interest in anything WotC - or whoever owns D&D next has to add to the system. Put whatever number you want in front, it won't be in my hands...

Monkey Jellybeans!

I guess that's about as appropriate as anything. <shrug> Whenever whatever shows up, I'll look and then decide as I can't decide before that.

Now that it is out in the open that Hasbro expects $50 Million profits yearly from each brand, I think discussion of their upcoming revenue garnering plans is always a VERY good idea.

They found the money to make a multi-million dollar increase in their CEOs pay this year, while according to Wikipedia:

"Over the years Hasbro has outsourced the manufacture of its products to third-party companies, mostly in China. At the Chinese factories, which Hasbro does not directly own or operate, migrant workers are compensated with meager salaries for their labor. At one such factory, in Dongguan, China, basic assembly line jobs pay a little over one hundred US dollars per month,China's minimum wage.

In 2007, a workers' rights group investigated several of Hasbro's Chinese suppliers and found that, in one instance, a toy factory in China's Guangxi Province had hired 1000 junior high school students. The same group discovered other widespread labor violations, including unsafe working conditions, mandatory overtime, verbal abuse and sexual harassment of employees. Hasbro issued a statement, saying that it would "act swiftly and decisively in making any necessary changes" and had "increased the intensity of [its] ongoing safety review efforts." Critics counter that, as Hasbro has no official regulatory control of these factories, it responds to such investigations by acquiring independent auditors, who make unannounced visits to the East Asian subcontractors. Factory managers are then "coached" in how to fool the auditors."

If the OP were dated July 2008, I'd probably agree. With an announcement of 5e by all indications eminent, and EN World being the premiere D&D news site, not so much... B-)
I agree with this. I don't think the discussions have anything to do with people wanting the "new shiny". There was some serious fracturing in the D&D fanbase after 4e came out and I think WOTC feels that bringing Monte back to ruminate and float thoughts and ideas out there may help better discover a way to bring back the old fanbase and still please the new. You can't blame them for trying and I think that it's good for the D&D brand to start discussions early.

Maybe they will be more forthright with open testing? Maybe they'll find a middle ground between the OGL and the GSL? Maybe, just maybe, there will be another D&D renaissance.

Would this be a bad thing? So why not discuss it?

Discussing 5e is not the issue. That's understandable. But does there need to be seven threads related to the discussion of an edition that is not out, nobody is playing it, and may not be released any time soon, if at all? And those are just current threads that I spotted at first glance.

If that is how things are going, we may as well start a 5e rules forum and merge the 4e forum into the Legacy forum.

Has anyone posted in the Gamers Seeking Gamers forum yet looking for a 5e group?

If you dislike the principle of lots of 5e threads, why are you adding to the 'problem'?

We stomped on a proliferation of 5e threads back when 4e was released for good reason, but now? Seems appropriate for them to be here.

If this thread has accidentally taken on a life you didn't expect or want, let me know and I'll close it for you.

Cheers

OK, admittedly, there doesn't need to be 7 threads. But if they are discussing different specific aspects or wishes with regards to 5e and people didn't want to derail other threads, I don't see an issue with it.
