Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Still #1

I suspect the Beginner Box may have had something to do with it. People can now start playing Pathfinder after only a single purchase, and that's a big draw. I think Paizo said at one point that it was their biggest selling item.

I'm pretty sure the Core Rule Book is their biggest selling item - 4 print runs so far I think. I'm not saying the Beginner Box did not do well, in fact, it did and is still selling well, but no where near the number of CRB's sold.

I think the Core Rulbook is up to its 5th printing.

I expect Pathfinder to stay #1 until D&D 5E comes out, at which time the 5E core book(s) will likely spike it to #1 - at least for the start of the edition.

I meant the biggest seller for a defined period of time (like the 2011 holiday season when it had just come out), not in the history of Paizo :)

I believe Lisa did say her business model came straight from Ryan's playbook -- produce items that drive sales of the Core Books... From what they've said, they just keep seeing increased sales numbers for the Core book quarter after quarter.

It's a great strategy - and the fact that you can pick up the rule books in PDF for $10 is a big deal, IMO. The adventures might be over $10, but all of the rules are $10. That's a great way to get folks to try out the system - $10 is a much safer bet than charging full or nearly full cover price.

Man. I payed $50 for the actual book when it first came out. But I'm not gonna say I wish I waited. Think of all the awesome game time I would have missed out on ;).

The $10 PDF for the main rulebooks is awesome. That is a super affordable entry price for the full rulebook in PDF format. I am sure a good many folks go on to buy the hardback after getting a look at the PDF for nice entry point price.

...Such as myself. I like PDF for my kindle, but I also just can't beat the feel and convenience of a book for reading and planning games, so I buy both.

Yep. For the core items I tend to have both the PDF and the physical book. I also greatly prefer that with their APs as well which is one of the things that make their AP subscription so nice.

For their supplements I tend to only own the PDF. The PDF price savings, carrying capacity on the iPad and such all contribute to that decision.
