Forgotten Realms Characters From The Real World

This is just a pair of questions I was thinking of: How many characters from the Real World have crossed over into the Forgotten Realms? And: Who are they?

My Google Fu was not strong enough to elicit an answer to the right question.

I'm having a hard time figuring out what the heck you're trying to find.
If you mean actual real world personalities transposed into FR characters then Volo (Marco Polo) is the most obvious.

If you mean characters played in various home games that have made them into the canon, I have absolutely no clue.

If you mean which characters are based on real world people - the Elminster has always been Ed Greenwood's alter ego.

If you are looking for something else, please elaborate.

I mean " cross over " as in " crossed over from Ansalon into Barovia " . I had thought that the old trope of the Forgotten Realms being connected to the Real World had been accompanied by there being at least a few people in Toril or Abeir-Toril that were born on Earth and crossed over.

Oh yes, several times now. Meeting John Titor for lunch soon. Ttyl.

I don't know of any canonical examples of specific people who have "crossed over".

It's implied in a number of sources (some 2e ones at least) that Elminster has at least visited modern-day Earth, but I don't know of specific examples of people from Earth visiting Toril.

EDIT: I think it's implied that the Mulhorandi were abducted from Ancient Egypt, since they were brought to Abeir-Toril from another plane thousands of years ago as slaves, and prayed for help from their Gods, and Ao permitted them access to Realmspace and with access to their deities they were able to liberate themselves, and the Mulhorandi deities are the Egyptian Pantheon. So, that's one example of people going from Earth to Toril, but not of a single, specific person.

I can't cite references, unfortunately, but I recall back in the early days of the Realms (1st edition/2nd edition) there being references to this phenomenon. I recall a passing reference to a 20th century human finding his way into the Realms from the old grey boxed set. In addition, there was an old Dungeon magazine adventure set in the Realms that revolved around a businessman who stepped into a portal by mistake and was going to be burned as a witch or some such.

Again, I recall the instances, but no longer have the sources to cite. Maybe others can dig it up from there.

D we will not make references to the forbidden cartoon again. I'm pretty sure that most of Gygax's grey hawk personalities were played as characters in his original group, and some of Jeff Grubb's as well(dragon bate and Elias.). Other than that, I'm not sure. I know Salvatore just made up his characters as he wrote the books. Drizzt was a spur of the moment decision when talking with his editor to make a buddy for wulfgar.
