As a player, do you have a preferred gender for your GM?

Unfortunately I've never really had a female DM to compare the others to. I've cajoled a female player into DMing once or twice, but despite honest encouragement all around, it didn't last long. The women gamers in my experience lack the confidence to GM.

Amusingly, it's a lot like watching me ask for a phone number. (Well, as I imagine I must look like.)

I've never played under a female GM, but I don't think gender would be an issue for me. The main thing, regardless of gender, is that they run a fun game.

Do that and I don't care what gender, age, race, sexuality whatever, etc., they are.

But that's not what he's saying:

He's saying he doesn't believe women are capable of DMing the type of game he'd enjoy. If he said the same thing of black DMs or Jewish DMs, I don't think anyone would declare that "just a preference."

You're reading too much into it. Capable? Yes. Likely? No.

Preference does not matter. It has been my misfortune to have only seen five women play in roleplaying games in my twenty five years of gaming. One of them is still a hardcore roleplayer (and once prolific published author for the Wizards of the Coast); two were wives; one played a few times; and one fled after one session. It would be interesting.

That's a question I've never considered. Thinking about it, I'd say no, I don't have a preference one way or another.

Yeah, I never considered it either until yesterday! :) But I'm so tired from (over) work right now, strange stuff comes into your head when you're light-headed with tiredness...

S'mon: (XPd the question "Do they like you?")

Presumably they do. They keep coming back at any rate, and I know I'm not the only choice for a DM in the area. So, I assume either they like how I run things, or they really like coming over to sit on my couch for 5-ish hours a week.
