10 more creatures added to the CC

Not your usual elves and dwarves
Wanna play something different? This week's batch features 10 creatures appropriate to be used as playable races.

The lot includes the apelike humanoid Hsing-sing, two monstrous humanoids, the psionic Geran and one-eyed, winged Hagertral, the jungle-dwelling dwarven offshoot Utuchekulu, and a couple of variant kobolds, the extraplanar Crypt Kobold and the mutated Kobalt.

We've also got several fey, from the dragon-assisting Dragite to the militaristic Gremlin Sprite to the "hedgehog folk", the Hurgeon.

Wanna play something really weird? How about the seafloor-dwelling snail-like Flawder?

Back and waaaay back
We're back after a long absence. Real-life sometimes gets in the way.

Speaking of back, the following batch of prehistoric creatures are from way back.

This includes the crocodilian Aetosaur and Proterosuchian, the aquatic Placodont and Pliosaur, and the Sea Turtle, including its gigantic ancestor.

The mammal kingdom gives us the bovine Aurochs, the mighty Mylodon and its lesser relative, the Ground Sloth, and three varieties of saber-toothed cats: the Saber-Toothed Jaguar, Saber-Toothed Leopard, and Saber-Toothed Lion.

Long time no update.

Looking through the text, I noticed a minor grammatical quibble and an error.

Shouldn't "Aetosaurs are a type of herbivorous prehistoric reptiles that lived before the age of the dinosaurs" be either "Aetosaurs are a type of herbivorous prehistoric reptile" or "Aetosaurs are herbivorous prehistoric reptiles"? A "Type" is singular, so if I remember my grammar rightly it should be accompanied by a singular "reptile".

The Pliosaur has its Combat tactics twice. Once is enough!

The CC is back! Hooray!

Speaking of, sorry for the absence this week. Work travel, back to normal by Weds (or Thurs if I have catching up to do at work) next week.

Shocking as it is, even I have to occasionally allow such a trivial thing as employment (and the resulting vulgar lucre) get in the way of my RPG internet activity.

The Kingdom's Gone Wild
A batch of wild animals and their magically beastly kin have run amok in the Creature Catalogue! This latest bunch include the heavily-fortified Armor Boar, the lightning-quick Farrowdale Mouse, the venomous Spiny Rabbit, and the oversized Dire Raven. Far less threatening are the Opossum and Gopher.

Rounding out the pack are several hyenas, the Cave Hyena, Short-Faced Hyena, and Spotted Hyena, as well as the bred-for-battle War Dog.

EDIT: I also fixed the aetosaur, pliosaur, and executioner's raven errors.

Good-oh.

Another few years at this rate and you might have caught up with the Homebrews! :p

In Memoriam

For those who missed it in the Shade memorial thread:

In Memoriam

In June, Eric Jansing, known here as Shade, departed for the Outer Planes, leaving us without our leader and friend. Shade became a CC moderator and admin in 2005, and this is the first CC update in over 5 years that Shade didn't make himself. In honor of his tireless efforts in monster conversion, the CC crew will continue our project of updating every D&D monster to 3.5e; Cleon and I will take over the updating duties. We hope these critters bring you the same joy that Shade's work brought to us and so many others.

Shade was an equal opportunity "monster junkie," as he proudly called himself, so it was difficult to choose monsters for this first update. These include some of the monsters Shade helped convert in his last year (the gohei p'oh, jagwere, snapper tortle, and werejaguar), two epic monsters (the draeden and the Tree of Wailing Souls), some shadowy undead (the shadowrath, greater shadowrath, and soul beckoner), and the greater lammasu (to represent Shade's role in our community).

Rest in peace, Eric. We will miss you.

Absolutely. We should probably stick with Shade's batch of 10 per week, which means we can catch up in about 1/3 of a year! Well, as long as we're still doing these weird slow conversions.
