The reason the crit range on a scythe is only 20 is because the crit multiplier is x4.
With Keen or Improved Critical, that becomes 19-20/x4. Still reasonable.
There is a barbarian ACF that gives additional point of crit range (instead of a doubling. That was probably VERY intentional) allowing a scythe with 18-20/x4.

Now, if you have a weapon that starts out as 19-20/x4, the above additions would make it a 16-20/x4 weapon.

True, you need to invest in the Exotic Weapon prof AND have the ACF AND have Improved Critical or Keen, (and possibly that feat that allows you to reroll crit confirms) but you will be doing MASSIVE amounts of damage. Especially if you also have (and use intelligently) Power Attack.

compared to other fighters, of course.

I can't tell if you are joking, it sounds like it but...

if you are willing to invest all of that into doing something so easily avoidable then you deserve to be incredibly powerful against the few enemies who can't avoid that type of warfare.

Add Disciple of Dispater (3.0) to it, and you come up with crits on a 9 (Tripled for Iron power, doubled for Imp. Crit/keen, Additional Point for ACF).

Is this functionally different from taking the Improved Critical feat and using a regular Scythe? (Other than the inability to stack Keen Edge with it?)
