Any new news?

It seems like the "Ed Greenwood to write 5E FR ..." headline has been at the top of the front page as a "featured headline" for quite a while, while it looks like there is newer news below it. Is that by design, or is there just nothing newer?

I look for the latest news at the top of the page, and find the layout confusing. Of course, I'm easily confused ...

The featured news item is the most viewed news item in the last 7 days, so it will change by itself. Though now you mention it, I'll try changing it to 3 days and see how that works out.

Everything below it is listed chronologically, most recent first.

Thanks for explaining. I only see one article on my screen when I hit the front page (the others are below the cut off) so normally when I see a headline I've read I just click on through to the forum, since I assume that nothing new has posted. So for me, the "featured headline" actually discourages reading.

Now that I know, though, I can make a point of scrolling. Still not as user-friendly as I'd prefer, though ...

Ooops....I guess I've been glancing at the top box like Olgar, and seeing no change figured there was no new news.

Failed my perception check.

What resolution are you guys using? I see the featured box plus the first 4 headlines before I have to scroll.

On my home computer, i use 1280 x 1024. I see the featured box plus about two -lines- of the news below that.

Having said that, it was only today (since you made the front page changes) before i realized that the top box was "featured headline" rather than the first new news items, and that the new news was below that -- i just got used to seeing the new news listed first.

Add to it, that the side bar doesn't list new news, but rather most discussed, so i wasn't noticing the new news from there either since in the past that was new news.

Yes, I fully admit it was just me failing to fully read "Featured" and "Hottest news..." and not bothering to look further down. And I may just be the victim of being an old dog who just needs to learn new tricks. I am not debating that as a fault of my own.

I'm just mentioning it since other people may be failing to notice the differences in layout, like I have been, and therefore missing the news.

So maybe somehow make 'featured headline' a little more distinctive. and/or make the news headline below that a little bigger / a little more obvious? and/or changing the most discussed sidebar back to a sidebar of the recent news?

Morrus, I'm working on a 1600x900 screen, and with my browser at full-screen, I see the Featured box, and just the headline of the top two boxes below it, but none of the text. So, right now I know the newest stories are about Bluffside returning and What's up with D&D, but I see no details beyond that until I scroll.

Roughly the top third of the page is ad bar and persistent navigation. That's.. a lot of real estate.

Yeah, vBulletin's header section has always been large. That's something far, far beyond my ability to rewrite, though.
