Random art link that may be of interest to some. While browsing about the net, I found this guy:
http://gimmemorebananas.blogspot.co.uk/2010/12/zdzislaw-beksinski.html

He's captured exactly how I'd imagine the Shadowfell would look. So much so that I'm going to introduce a few of his images into my next game!

His full site is here:

Cheers!
For me that's less Shadowfell and more Nine Hells. In fact, it reminds me a lot of Wayne Barlowe's Inferno.

It doesn't really catch my image of the Shadowfell either, honestly- it's too Geiger-esque and there's too much light in the compositions.

The pic that will ALWAYS define the Shadowfell for me is the one in Worlds & Monsters- there were three two-page spreads, one each of the material world, Feywild and Shadowfell, showing the parallels between the planes. I'm not 100% sure, but I think this is the Shadowfell image:

Some great links there! :)

I actually really like the lightened appearance of the original pics! This is grim daytime in the Shadowfell - isolated, clammy, fog-shrouded, bleak and haunted.

I also see the Shadowfell as being a terrible place full of evil. Just look at the Shadar-Kai - they're essentially cenobites :)
