I remember thinking the first time I read the book, the dwarves were not very good at adventuring - they got captured a lot.

I wasn't that hyped up on this movie for awhile. However, lately it looks like it is coming together really well. PJ really has it dialed in as far as movie translations go.

I think back on flicks like Dragonslayer, Willow, early Conan, and even the Bakshi LotR effort and remember how much of an advance they were from my favorite Harryhausen films or old monster movies I'd watch on Creature Features (our WGN Saturday night horror movie option in the Chicago area). Now it seems like there is little limit to making something appear on screen that requires nearly no suspension of disbelief for the visual and audio elements, just the sense of conscious reality needs to be suppressed.
