I watched one episode, but I found it had way too much of the modern-standard filler, and paled in comparison to, say, Battlebots.

It's interesting, but I wish they didn't add the fakey pyro effects. They undermine the whole thing instead of adding to it.

And according to this interview with the builder the show runners even wanted fake hydraulics added to when they get hit:

heh From what I have seen, the hydraulics spew plenty enough as is. :)

Yeah, Battlebots was fun. These sure are much bigger though. :)

RCL does pick up speed at the second episode, but you're right in that there is quite a lot of filler on the show.

Edit: Instead of the pointless filler they should have more behind the scenes footage. Just have someone film the build/repair parts that they keep cutting short.

I've been watching it.

i think the bot teams would have been better if the teams had built their own bot, and truly trained to work together.

Due to the losers-win phenomenon, if the underdog gets to the 2nd round, their bot has fresh parts, whereas the round 1 leader has stressed parts, so they get KO'd early in the 2nd round.

This causes clear under-dogs to win their match, and clearly superior teams to go home early.

Granted, those "superior" teams were all cocky, but they had better coordination between them, and better fighting techniques. They simply lost because of the situation of entering round 2 with stressed, but not broken parts.

Battlebots used to show three fights in a half hour show. RCL shows two fights in a one hour show.

In Battlebots, the builders were also the fighters and the bots were treated like the main characters. In RCL, the jocks doing the fighting are the main characters, and the engineers are completely subservient to them.

I used to watch Battlebots all the time. I even used to watch the Robot Wars knockoff that wasn't as good. I watched a couple episodes of RCL to give it a chance, but I do not plan on watching any more.

What is the losers-win phenomenon? Where are you getting these fresh parts from?
